“I’m going to lie down and then get ready for my date with Luka,” I told her.

She nodded, but I could see the concern in her gaze. “Let me know if you want help doing your hair.”

I gave her a thumbs-up and then went back to my room to be alone and feel sorry for myself.

After staringat the ceiling for a good two hours, I showered and got ready for my date with my fiancé. The wordfiancéjust made me grin, as did the giant ruby ring on my finger.

Speaking of Ruby…

My phone buzzed with a text.

Ruby: Still all good to come there tomorrow morning? Sixty-seven of us total.

I’d had a talk with Luka yesterday. He was already setting up a makeshift disaster shelter, which was basically a giant barn with bunkbeds and sleeping bags and porta potties. It would be good enough for now until we could find a more permanent solution. I was hoping that solution was that we killed Maz and could all return back to Spokane safely. Especially now that Luka would lose his crown.

Me: All good. Ready for you.

I sent back and closed my phone before noticing it was dying.

Dang it.

I’d left my charger in my car when I’d taken it to Spokane. I hadn’t been sure if Liv and I were going to stay the night or not, so I’d packed a bag and left it in there.

I had time before Luka arrived, and some fresh air would be nice anyway.

Slipping out the front door, I crossed the pathway that led from our little guest cottage and wound down to the front of the castle to the main parking lot.

The sun was setting and the lights kicked on, illuminating my little yellow Beetle. Man, I loved that car. It was one of the first things I’d bought myself with my hunter bounty money.

Reaching up, I rubbed the healing scar over my arm where Maz had shot me.

A Munai.

I hadn’t really allowed myself to process all that with her. It was too traumatic. Not only had she lied to us our whole life, she wasn’t even human herself.

Unlocking the door, I reached into the back seat and pulled out my duffle bag. Luka’s black Range Rover pulled up behind my Beetle and I smiled. As the window rolled down, I waved to him, about to tell him I was going to run my duffle bag inside first, when I realized I didn’t recognize the driver. There was movement behind me and a hand clamped around my mouth. Before I could process anything, I was being pushed with force toward the Range Rover, dropping my duffle on the floor. The back door opened and I was tossed in kicking and screaming. I landed hard on my side, a slight pain throbbing in my healing gut before the door slammed and then the tires squealed.

I was thrown backward even further in the seat as the car took off like a rocket. Before I could get my bearings, a gun cocked and then cold metal was pressed against my temple. I froze, my eyes adjusting to the dimness of the vehicle.

Morgana.

I was sprawled out in the back seat while she sat shotgun, a Glock aimed at my forehead.

‘Luka, help. I’ve been kidnapped … again. Morgana. Leaving the parking lot in a black Range Rover,’I rushed out.

“I heard a little rumor,” Morgana purred. “That you are Luka’s bonded feeder. Is this true?” She grinned like the confirmation of this news would bring her great joy.

‘Luka!’I screamed, panicking that he wasn’t responding.

“She’s trying to mentally contact him,” the driver said, and my throat went bone dry.

“So it’s true!” Morgana looked pleased, continuing to aim the pistol at me as the car wove in and out of the parking lot.

‘Luka!’Desperation gripped me.

“Oh, honey, he’s blocking you.” She pointed at the driver. “He’s a very powerful warlock. Luka has no idea where you are, and he won’t until you’re dead.”

Ice cold fear trickled down my veins and settled in my gut.
