The door opened and Sage peeked her head out. “Ya’ll better get in here and talk some sense before they get divorced over this.”

Loud voices filtered outside and we stood, stepping into the space. I was right, it was a church of sorts. Pews sat in neat rows, and Sawyer and Demi were sitting across from two of them, facing each other. Sawyer bounced an adorable baby on his knee as the little boy chewed on his fingers.

“Demi, my love, we just got out of a war,” Sawyer warned his wife.

She growled low in her throat. “I know that, I’m the one who helped us win it!”

Burn.

Sawyer’s eyebrows bunched together. “What would you have me do? Pull my men off rebuilding the city to go traipsing through Dark Fey Territory and start a war with them?”

Demi stood and glared down her husband, her eyes flashing yellow. “Fine. I’ll go with the Paladins. We can handle it alone.”

She turned to walk away and Sawyer groaned. “Get back here, woman! Of course I’ll fight with you. Geeze.”

Demi froze and turned, noticing Luka and I for the first time. Winking at me, Demi then faced Luka. “Are you in or will you break a nail,Prince?”

Luka looked at Sawyer: “What are the rules about me backtalking your wife?”

Sawyer chuckled. “Don’t do it.”

Demi walked over to Luka with a grin. “Seriously though, this could unite our people. If you brought in the vamps, and we brought the wolves, then together we can save the slaves from this human-fey baby farm.”

Luka visibly winced at the wordslaves, and then winced again atbaby farm. “Like I just told Aspen, I don’t have an army yet. I’m not king. I’m still a felon wanted by the Magical Creature Council but—”

“Did someone say ‘felon,’” a familiar voice called out from behind me, and we all spun.

Walsh was standing in the open doorway with Bennet and one other male I didn’t know, but it had to be Talon, the final member of their little prisonFive Crewthat Luka had told me about.

Sawyer burst up from where he sat and handed Demi the baby. Both he and Luka stalked over to the three guys and pulled them into a group bro hug.

“They’re adorable,” Liv said beside me.

“I want to get them all matching custom t-shirts,” Demi said, bopping the baby on her hip.

“It will say ‘Hot felons,’” Sage added, and we all burst out laughing at the mental image of them wearing such a thing.

“Why are you here?” Sawyer asked them.

“Walsh told us you needed help with breaking free some prisoners.” Bennet gestured to Walsh, who looked to Sage and winked. Sage visibly swooned, her eyes going all goo-goo gaga and I was suddenly insanely jealous of all these solid relationships around me. All I ever wanted from Sterling was commitment. House, kids, ring. I was that chick. Instead, I fell for a walking dead guy who was engaged to a walking dead girl.

Cue mental breakdown.

I corrected the use of his word prisoner: “Slaves—breeding slaves.”

Bennett looked to Demi. “You say the Munai are guarding the camp?”

She nodded once. “At least half a dozen.”

Bennet let out a low whistle. He was the resident fey of the group, so he probably knew the most about the Munai.

“We aren’t going to be able to take on half a dozen Munai with brute force. We’ll need witches too.”

Witches. My blood ran cold. I’d never met a witch … that I knew of. They could be anywhere though. They were the most likely to be able to blend in with the humans.

“Won’t be a problem. I can get at least five of them,” Demi added.

My heart swelled with pride as this woman who I barely knew so easily leant her forces to a cause that didn’t affect her in any way. I wanted to tell them that they didn’t have to do this, but I refrained because I really wanted them to. Ineededthem to. Liv and I couldn’t do this alone.
