Bryce wouldn’t ... he wouldn’t go that far, would he?
“Fucking four-wheeled bastards think they own the road!” Sebastian kicked a chair, causing others to look our way.
They started to gripe about how no one watches out for motorcycles while I stewed in my nightmare of all nightmare juices.
Would Bryce try to kill Ethan?
No. That was too far, even for Bryce.
Hit and runs happened all the time. Probably a drunk driver.
Cody came over and slung an arm around me. “He’ll be okay. He’s the strongest guy I’ve ever met.”
I just nodded. But in that moment I remembered the look Bryce had given Ethan at the ski lodge. It was … deadly.

Twelve
Twelve hours. Twelve fucking hours of waiting and not knowing what the hell was happening to the man who had repaired my injured heart. Sitting here in the hospital not knowing if he was seriously injured, it made me realize something.
Somewhere along the way I’d fallen in love with Ethan King.
This was bad news. Awful news. Everyone I loved got hurt, including me. Over the past twelve hours I had convinced myself that Bryce had forced Ethan off the road in an effort to kill him. I was sure of it, and I was going to tell the police they’d had an argument at the lodge. I owed that to Ethan. No more hiding and allowing Bryce to get away with shit.
When the nurse finally came back, looking bleary-eyed and tired, I shook everyone awake. They’d all fallen asleep. Only James and I had kept pounding the coffee and stayed awake to see this through. I would crash later. Ethan needed me.
“How is he?” I stepped forward, nearly tripping over my own feet.
She nodded. “Stable. Cat scan shows no brain injury thanks to the helmet. Two orthopedic surgeons had to work together to rebuild his leg. He’s got enough metal pins and plates to set off airport security, but he’ll be okay.”
It hit me then, the relief, and I burst into tears.
“Thank you,” I mumbled between sniffles.
She nodded. “He’s waking up from anesthesia now, and the police officer is waiting to speak with him. After that, you can go in. Only one of you. He’ll spend the night in the ICU because he’s diabetic.”
I nodded. “Actually, I’d like to speak with that officer. I have a tip for him.” I held my head high and James, Sebastian, and Cody froze. Nick was still passed out.
“You don’t think?” James whispered to me.
The nurse frowned. “I’ll send him out.”
Then she left.
I turned to face James. His blond hair was smooshed on one side from leaning against the wall half the night.
“Bryce is capable of this. I see that now,” I told him as my heart thumped in my chest.
James’s jaw grit. “I’ll fucking kill that punk if he did this. Are you sure?”
No, I wasn’t sure of anything. “I’m going to tell the police they got in a scuffle at the lodge and have them go right now to check out the front of Bryce’s car and his alibi.”
James relaxed a little at that, but Sebastian stepped forward, fists clenched. “Maybe I should pay a little visit to Bryce before the cops do…?”
I shook my head. “No, we need to be sure, and this has to go on record if we want to put Bryce away.”
He looked let down but nodded.
