Herominous voice worried me. RAIDOS had originally been keen to partner with us.After finding out that my blood could make vampires pregnant, well, thatpartnership ended. Now they were a rogue organization not even backed by thegovernment and they wanted me dead.

Shebroke eye contact and dropped her hands to her sides. Now it was Kai’s turn tograb her shoulders.

“Thankyou for the wise counsel. We will be guarded with the information we give themand no one will hurt this pack. Not now, not in twenty years, never.”

Shelooked unsure but nodded and left.

MeetingKai’s gaze, I reached out and took his face in my hands, kissing his lips.

“Ilove you,” I told him. He dealt with so much for this pack, for me. I didn’trealize how much until now.

Hiseyes roamed the length of my body. “I love you, too, but don’t bring Luna inour bed anymore. It stinks.”

Myeyes widened.

“Busted,”Kai told me.

Ilaughed. “Sorry. I’m going to go see Diya.” I kissed his cheek and left beforehe could talk more about Luna.

Iwalked to her house slowly, letting the sounds and smells of the thick forestsoothe me. The fresh dew, the bark chips crunching under my shoes, the varyingshades of green. God, I loved this mountain. I would never leave it. I felt thatAlexa was right to warn Kai, but I also knew he had done the right thing incoming out to the humans. Our fragile numbers were now strengthened with thehuman militias willing to fight the vampires with us but still. Humansoutnumbered us all. When they realized that and if they wanted to … I shook myhead, refusing to think about that.

WhenI came upon Diya’s house, I saw that she was on the porch drinking tea withTrent. Her belly was getting big and she had one hand resting on it. I smiled, approaching them.

“Hey,Mama.”

Shesmiled in return. “What’s up?”

Igestured to the black streak in my hair. “Can you dye this for me? I have awitches’ ball tonight and–”

Shescrunched her upturned nose as if she smelled something bad. She didn’t likewitches. “Witches’ ball. Does Kai know?”

Irolled my eyes and glared at her.

Shelowered her gaze. “Yeah, I can dye it, come in.”

Trentstood. “No way. You’re pregnant!” He put his hands up in the air and looked atus like we were crazy.

Diyarolled her eyes. “I’m going to wear gloves and a mask. Besides, I’m a werewolf. Some bleach fumes aren’t going to harm our baby.”

Trentlooked at me. “Sorry, Aurora, but no.”

Diya’smouth opened in shock.

Well,shit. “I understand,” I told him.

Diyagrinned like she was up to no good. “Well, if I can’t do it, then you have to,Trent.”

Trentlooked mortally offended. “I’mnotdoing my Alpha’s mate’s hair!”

Igrinned, too.

Thirtyminutes later, Trent stood in the bathroom wearing pink plastic gloves and amask, holding a brush with cream bleach.

Iwas trying to contain my laughter. “We have to get a picture of this,” Istated.

“Shutup,” Trent grumbled as Diya barked orders from the doorway.
