Kadenshifted. “His mind is going rabid. He can’t function without an Alpha or apack. He’s sick.” He sounded scared. To see such a big, menacing guy pleadingfor help pulled on my heart strings.
‘Whatexactly does going rabid mean?’I asked Kai.
‘Goingrogue is only temporary when a wolf changes packs. If you aren’t mentallystrong, you cannot make it as a rogue long term. Only Alpha’s like Kaden canand it takes a toll on the mind. You act crazy, like a rapid dog.’
Anunderstanding passed between us. Kai looked at me. I nodded. Kai lunged atChase and bit into his shoulder causing him to howl.
‘Bloodof my blood,’Kai told him. I felt Kai bringinghim into the pack, the pack bonds were wrapping around Chase. As soon as I felthis energy join the pack, I recoiled. He was suicidal, depressed, hearingthings, seeing things. The poor soul. He couldn’t think straight. Now that Kaihad Chase in the pack, he let him go and stared into his eyes. Kaden lookedready to pounce on Kai at any moment if it went south. I looked at Max andflicked my eyes to Kaden. Someone would need to hold Kaden back if Kai had tofight Chase to tame him. Anna had the enforcer and I had my eyes trained onwhip guy who was on his cell phone.
‘Ineed to make him submit to me. He was way too submissive to be a rogue for thislong. He’s more submissive than Emma. He needs order, he needs rules, he needsto be tamed,’Kai told me.
Chase’seyes were wild, frantic, rabid. He looked ready to fight for his life. Hestared into Kai’s eyes. Chase growled and crouched, ready to lunge. Kadenstepped forward and Max grabbed his arms pinning them behind his back. Kaigrowled back, long and deep. It made the hairs on my arms stand up. Chase beganpanting and finally dropped his eyes and rolled over, belly up.
Pack,I heard his wolf say.
Kainipped his neck and Chase stood, his eyes lowered to the ground in submission.
‘I’mso ashamed,’he told us.‘I thought I couldmake it on my own.’Being part of the pack, he could communicate with us,but not with Kaden, because Kaden wasn’t pack.
Kailooked at me.‘He will be okay, but he should stay with our pack for awhile. He needs to mentally heal.’
“He’spack now. He’s okay, but he needs to stay with us for a while. You can stay onthe edge of our property,” I told Kaden.
Henodded. “Thank you. Thank you all.”
Annawas in human form and talking to the enforcers.
Maxleft and reappeared in the doorway and tossed Kaden and me clothes.
Theenforcer came back inside the barn. “The council will overturn the sentencingas long as he stays with a pack and doesn’t go rogue again.”
“I’llmake sure of it,” Kaden told the enforcer. Chase walked slowly to Kaden’s legsand lay at his feet. Kaden patted his rib cage. “It’s going to be okay now.”
Every time I brought together a mated couple, I felt a rightnesswithin my soul. It was my life’s purpose.

Adrianhad just left after retrieving the Alpha blood sample I promised him from Kai. Thepack was in the basement training on how to kill vampires; Kai wanted us tostart going out on missions and protecting the public. I tightened my grip onthe silver stake and taunted Trent, my sparring partner. My cell phone buzzedon the floor mat with a text.
-Meetat that place?-It was Dr. T., Dr. Tavern workedfor RAIDOS, the secret government branch of humans that studied supernaturals.A few months ago, I had made an alliance with them. I still wasn’t sure theycould be trusted. Dr. Tavern didn’t always seem to follow their orders. Shewent out of her way to warn me of things and so I was pretty sure that I couldat least trust her.
‘Dr.Tavern texted me. I’m meeting her at the falls,’I told Kai from across the room and met his gaze.
‘I’mcoming.’He told Max something before grabbing hist-shirt and slipping it over his head.
‘Dang,I hate it when you put clothes on,’I teased.
Hegrinned at me.‘Likewise.’
Kaiand I walked out of the house and to the car. He wore a tight black cottont-shirt and blue jeans. His hair was dark and wild. He looked me up and down. Ihad my long blonde hair down. It hung halfway down my back. Kai pulled my arm, stopping me. He grabbed the engagement ring that hung from a silver chain on myneck. He was careful not to touch the silver chain, as it would burn him. Mywitch powers made me immune.
“Twomonths,” he stated and then kissed me.
“Twomonths,” I echoed.
Iheard approaching footsteps and turned to see Emma running over to us.
“Areyou going into town?” she asked urgently.
