When he pulled back, we were both grinning like childish idiots.

“Besides,” I said, “I look amazing in your jersey. It would be a shame to waste that on one game.”

He surprised us both with a belly laugh that echoed off his apartment walls.

“Jacks, I’m falling pretty damn hard myself,” he said. “In case that wasn’t clear.”

“I can be pretty thick, but I think I got that,” I said, allowing a mischievous glint into my gaze. “But I might need a little convincing. As my author friends say, think you can show instead of tell?”

“Oh, I can do that.”

Chapter 36

Skyler

Itook Jacks’s hand and pulled him to his feet.

“Where are we going?” he asked, though the gleam in his eyes told me he already knew.

“This poor couch has seen enough. It’s time the bed got a taste of you.”

“I’d rather you taste me.”

I grinned. “Oh, I plan on it. Now move that pretty ass before I make you squirm.”

Where my sudden confidence had come from, I may never know; but for some strange reason, I felt like the king of my castle once more, ready to take on the world and fulfill any desire Jacks might have. I wanted to give him everything.

On the way into the bedroom, I nibbled at his neck and rubbed his arms through the thick jersey fabric. I couldn’t stop touching him. No kiss or hint of skin or taste of breath was enough. I needed all ofhim.

“You’re making this walk to the bedroom hard,” he said.

I chuckled against his skin as one hand snaked around him to grip his crotch. “Wow. So hard.”

He laughed and leaned back into me. “You’re impossible. What am I gonna do with you?”

“Anything you want,” I whispered close to his ear. “Absolutely anything.”

The shiver that flowed from his body into mine told me how excited he was by that. The pulse of his cock in my hand—even through his jeans and underwear—was an even clearer signal.

“I want you inside me tonight, Jacks. I want to be one with you.”

Jacks stopped mid-step.

His whole body went rigid, and I swear I could hear his mind cycling through a thousand different thoughts.

“Sky, we don’t have to—”

I gripped his shoulders and spun him to face me.

“I want you inside me, Jacks. I want to feel you, know you are mine and I’m yours. I want there to be nothing between us but our hearts and souls as I kiss those beautiful lips. I want to be part of you and you me, and never even remember a time that wasn’t so.” I drew a deep breath. “I know it’s crazyto say things like that, but—I love you.” The words blurted out on their own, without my help or my brain’s involvement—but also without even a hint of doubt.

Jacks’s eyes went wide, as though he was as shocked as I, but his gaze never wavered. He blinked, then said in a calmer, firmer tone, “I love you, Skyler Shaw. I think I did that first night you walked into the bar. Every day we’ve spent together, every conversation or text or whatever, they’ve all made me love you more. You make my heart full. Shit, you make me feel things I’ve never felt for anyone else—ever. I’m so in love with you it hurts.”

I stared, unmoving, barely able to think or breathe or—

“Please say something. Anything.”

I blinked again.
