After careful consideration, it appears that your friend Veda’s case is similar. Omegas being born in a Beta family are quite common, so the Alliance decided not to open an investigation at this time.

We take every report seriously, and please don’t hesitate to contact us again if the situation changes.

In the meantime, the head of the US division is copied in, so he’s also aware of the situation.

Thank you very much,

Maja Eriksson

Head of the Alpha-Omega International Alliance

Of course.

It’s not surprising that’s their stance, only disappointing.

Even though I don’t trust them, I felt it was my duty to report the situation with the trafficking ring. I named St. James and gave every detail I had about what had happened, sure they would be just as suspicious as I was, yet the Alliance has failed again.

Fine. I can do it myself. I roll my shoulders back, a curse on the tip of my tongue when the phone rings, startling me. I don’t get manyphone calls, I never give the impression I’m the chatty sort, and when I answer, I make sure they can hear how much they bother me.

“Major.”

“Don’t listen to Maja, she’s a cunt.”

My spine goes rigid at the sound of the male gruff on the other side of the line. “Who’s this?”

“Dominic Savage,” he replies as if I should know. “And I just read that bullshit of an email too.”

My eyes return to the screen, and I check the email copied on that message, and sure enough, it belongs to a Dominic.

“And how the hell do you have my number?”

“She sent me everything you have, but I know Maja, so I didn’t bother to tell her you’re on the money. Fuck, why do I need to do her job? She started this goddamn exchange program for Omegas. She’s finding them everywhere in South America and pairing them with Alpha packs in Europe, which is a true happily ever after. She doesn’t want to dirty her hands with the shit going down on this side of the ocean.”

I rub my temple, sure a headache is about to start. “That still doesn’t explain why you have my number.”

“I was about to pay you a visit. You’re on to something.”

I grunt because I fucking know I’m on to something. There’s no way all this is a coincidence. Too many Omegas, too much not adding up.

“Anderson St. James is in it. He thinks he’s fucking slick because he’s a Beta. Damn, maybe he is because no one investigated the bastard until me.”

“So you knew about Veda?” The temperature changes, and he fucking knows, even miles away.

“Hey, he wasn’t messing with the girl. He kept and raised her, and I only found out his whole thing in the last year or so. You wanted me to break in and take an adult?”

Yes. That’s what I’d have done if I knew someone was neglecting an Omega like that. I’d kill the bastard if I had the chance. Fuck, I might do exactly that.

“Calm down, Wilde,” he tsks. “She’s good with you now, right? Are you taking care of her?”

The question brings chills down my spine. I tell myself I’d do this for any Omega, any woman, but I know that’s only partially true. I’d do anything for Veda. The woman owns me even if it’s not right. Even if she doesn’t belong to me.

“She’s safe,” I grit out.

“Good. I’m coming around for a visit in the next few days.”

“I don’t remember inviting you.”

He ignores that. “In the meantime, don’t do anything stupid. I’m already the only motherfucker working in this goddamn government. Don’t make my life harder.”
