I rolled my eyes and you grunted. Lucian was justtoo muchsometimes.
“Twenty-one,” Stefan said as though even that was revealing too much.
“When’s your birthday?” Lucian asked.
Stefan’s brow dipped with suspicion. “Why do you want to know?”
“How else can I determine our astrological compatibility?”
Stefan snickered. Alcohol brought out a slightly cheerier side of him. “I’m a Scorpio.”
“The most misunderstood of the signs,” Lucian mused. “Passionate and power-hungry with a venomous bite and a willingness to wait for revenge.”
Instead of confirming or denying it, Stefan licked the rim of the wine bottle he’d been hoarding, entirely for Lucian’s benefit. Beside me, you popped the cork on another bottle. “I’m not sharing after that,” you said gruffly and passed it over to me.
“Tell me all of your secrets,” Lucian said to Stefan, attempting, yet again, to seduce him.
“No,” Stefan said bluntly and tongued the open bottle once more before taking a long, leisurely swig. His throat muscles worked the liquid down, spilling only a little, which he caught with the side of his hand.
“You swallow beautifully,” Lucian said with lusting appreciation, still eyeing Stefan’s jugular. His desire hung like a musk in the air.
“And your cock-teasing abilities are truly next level,” I said. You chuckled at that. Stefan only smiled like it was a compliment. Every time I thought I had a read on him, he proved me wrong.
“Let’s play a drinking game,” I suggested as a way to help out Lucian. “I used to play it with my friends back home. It’s called Never Have I Ever. The person holding the bottle of wine says something they’ve never done before and if you’ve done it, you have to drink.”
“Example,” you said with a studious look. Mr. Rules Man.
I took the bottle from you. “I’ll go first. Never have I ever had sex with a woman.” I surveyed our little circle. Lucian and you both drank. Stefan abstained. I didn’t want to think about all the people you’d boned over your long lifetime. You were lucky Nephilim couldn’t contract human diseases.
“My turn,” Lucian said. “Never have I ever confessed romantic love to another being and truly meant it.”
You and I both drank while Lucian’s gaze turned toward Stefan. He sat, stone still, and stared at the fire.
“Stefan,” Lucian cooed, drawing out the shhh in his name so that it sounded far more intimate. “Your turn.”
His head lifted, and he shot me a calculated look. “Never have I ever fucked my brother.” Stefan’s gaze swiveled toward Lucian, as did mine. Thankfully, he didn’t drink. Not sure how I would have handled that.
“It really doesn’t count,” I said in our defense. “We’re not human brothers, and we weren’t raised together. It’s different.”
“It’s really not,” Stefan said with a catty grin. “Now, drink.”
I got that humiliation over with, though you seemed completely unbothered by it, and I elbowed you lightly. “Henri, it’s your turn.”
You seemed lost in concentration, trying to think up something you’d never done before. Every time you opened your mouth to speak, you’d close it again.
“There has to be something,” I said impatiently. Apparently, you’d left no kink unturned.
“Never have I ever played this game before,” you said, which was practically a cheat. I was the only one who drank.
“Okay,” I began again while trying to figure out what I might be able to compel out of Stefan. He’d definitely won round one. “Never have I ever… wanted to bone Lucian.”
Stefan glared at me, his bright eyes piercing me like poisonous daggers, and reluctantly took a drink. Beside him Lucian practically vibrated with glee. Seizing the opportunity, he draped one arm over Stefan’s shoulder and said, “Never have I ever refused the advances of a man as alluring as yourself.”
You practically gagged at that. I wasn’t sure whether I should drink or not, and it didn’t really matter because Stefan only pushed Lucian’s arm off of him and said, “Never have I ever lost in a knife fight.”
Lucian laughed and drank deeply. “I can certainly attest to that.”
My eyebrows rose. Did Stefan keep a blade on him? Was that how he’d managed to fend off Lucian’s advances?
