That makes one of us.

I’m not wearing that.”

“Oh, come on, you have to! It’s part of the costume,” Brinley groans.

“Wearing a hockey jersey is part of the costume.” I cross my arms. “Not wearing your brother’s jersey.”

“It’s a perfect size.” She holds the jersey up to my body and gives me aAre you telling me this isn’t perfectlook.

“I’m not wearing his jersey. I’m fine with the Blackhawks jersey I have on.”

“It’ll be funny.”

“If I have to wear Declan’s jersey, then you have to wear Jaxon’s.”

“You’re right,” she drops Declan’s jersey, “the Blackhawks one looks so much better.”

“That’s what I thought.”

I can’t remember the last time Halloween involved going out. Usually, it’s pushing Cam out the door, swearing I’m okay spending the night alone. Now, I’m wearing a costume to go to a college party. I don’t know who I’ve become.

“Is Mollie gonna be there tonight?” I wonder, slipping on my black Converse.

“Unfortunately.” She rolls her eyes. “Declan will be there, ergo, Mollie.”

I’ve been lucky to avoid all the run-ins with Mollie for a few weeks now, and I was hoping tonight wouldn’t be any different.

“You’ll be fine.” Brinley drops her head onto my shoulder, wrapping her arms around me. “Don’t let her get to you.”

“Easy for you—”

“Mollie’s just jealous because you have my brother head over heels for just being yourself.”

“I don’t think your brother is Mollie’s issue with me.”

“If she says something to you tonight,” Brinley begins, holding up her fists, “you might see boxer Brin come out.”

“Now that I’d love to see.”

“Yeah, yeah.” She grabs her bag off her dresser. “Come on, we’ve got to pick Alex up on the way.”

“Alex?”

“The guy I told you about.”

“The one you’re talking to?”

“The one I’m friends with.” She replies, hopping in the elevator.

“You’re not just bringing him tonight to make Jaxon jealous, are you?”

“No,” she argues. “I told him I’m not ready to date anyone because I don’t want to make him a rebound.”

“Good.”

“But I told him that maybe if we spend time together as friends, it could become something.”

“Even better.” I tease as we leave the elevator and head to my car. “I can’t wait to meet him.”
