“It’s citing dates and events that only people who knew Liu or my father could know… Nyle, how did you know what to even ask?” Darren said with a note of bewilderment.

“I asked Sara for help, and we came up with a way to weed out any impostors.” Nyle laughed. “Shit. That explains why she insisted on including that weird nonsense word at the end. That must’ve prompted him to reply in code.”

Aiden smiled. That certainly sounded like Sara. She wanted Darren to succeed and she was doing whatever she could to help make it happen. Aiden didn’t know if it was simply how she’d been programmed, but even if that made sense logically, a part of him couldn’t shake off the feeling that the siblings’ bond she seemed to share with Darren couldn’t be anything else but genuinely real.

“Nyle…” Darren trailed off, passing the tablet back.

Nyle held it to his chest, brimming with infectious excitement. “You want me to send a reply, right? What am I saying?”

Darren placed his hand on Aiden’s thigh, doing one of those circular motions with his thumb. He met Aiden’s gaze next and the determination in his eyes raised Aiden’s hackles as he realized what was about to come out of Darren’s mouth before he’d even said it.

Lips curving on one side in a barely-there asymmetrical smile, Darren turned to Nyle. “Nyle,” he said, his voice donning some of that regal authority Aiden so rarely heard. “Tell George that I want to meet him.”
