“Yours?” I just stared at him.
“Mine,” he said gruffly.
“But why?” My voice sounded so small. I dropped my head.
“I want you.” He said it so simply, as if that sentence held all the answers in the world.
“But you just met me.” It sounded like I was trying to convince him to not choose me, but a small part of me was, because this wouldn’t be long term. It couldn’t be. I only saw it leading to my heartache.
“And?”
Fear intermingled with hope. Tears flooded my sight and I found myself wrapped in his arms.
“Bunny,” he murmured into my hair. He let me sniffle into his chest, getting him all wet with my tears.
“Relax. You will do as I say, yes?”
“Yeah.” Doubt coated my tone.
“Yes?” he repeated forcefully.
“Yes, Alpha.”
“Good girl.” He kissed my nose.
Chapter Five
Ibalanced the cup of coffee on the saucer in one hand and knocked with the other.
“Enter.” His voice sent a shiver down my spine. I adored his face, his voice, every little thing about him drew me. He didn’t look up as I approached. He focused on the document before him, scribbling across the form and flipping to the next one to sign. He was so attractive it made me dizzy.
“Leave it there.” I frowned and slowly set it down, my heart sinking with it. I slowly backed away and that was when he lifted his head.
“Bunny.” His eyes lit up and his dimple made an appearance.
A grin immediately tugged at my lips.
“Can I ask you a favor?” I blurted before I chickened out.
His eyebrow twitched.
Samuel rested his palms on the desk, putting down his pen.
“My attention is all yours.” Oh, how I liked the sound of that. He scooted his chair back, leaning to pat his thigh. With a peek at the closed unlocked door, I crept around the desk and slid onto his lap. He hooked his hand under my knees, pulling me more securely against him. No one dared enter his space without knocking, so it felt safe enough. “Now, what is it?”
I gnawed on my lip. He didn’t seem to care earlier when he dropped us off at the front, but I could feel the curious looks. Of course, no one assumed anything, because even Judy had been in his car before, but still, I wanted to make sure we were on the same page.
“Don’t tell anyone we’re seeing each other.” I blushed just saying the words.
He leaned back, and I fell more onto his chest. My palms flatted on the lapels of his jacket. “And is there a reason for this? Are you ashamed of me?”
“No! Never, I could never be ash—you’re messing with me.” I glared, studying the dip of his dimple.
“You’re easy to mess with.” His hidden smile turned into a full blown one.
“Promise me.” I folded my arms in front of my chest.
“You are a singular creature. Do you know how many women would crow about being with an Astor, let alone me?” He sounded self-absorbed, and I narrowed my eyes, bristling.
