“Trust me, you did.I could hear everything in the bathroom.”She was just thankful she hadn’t seen everything.
“Eden, please, I am so sorry. It will never happen again. It was just this one time.”
“Why do you keep lying?”Eden asked.
Hilary didn’t get a chance to say another word, as right then the front door opened, and Eden was shocked to see her sister, Maeve, step through. She had texted Maeve several hours ago.
“Get the fuck out,” Maeve said.
She knew she could count on her sister.Maeve wheeled in her makeup bag and put it out of the way but grabbed Hilary’s case and tossed it out of the house.Hilary was sobbing and begging, and Eden felt bad, but at the same time she didn’t want to help her friend.
When Maeve came back into the house and grabbed Hilary, her friend started to fight, lashing out, calling Maeve a bitch, trying to insist that Maeve set her up.This ended with Maeve grabbing Hilary’s hair close to her head and tugging hard, making sure Hilary followed her as she tossed her onto the front lawn.Without another word, she slapped her hands together, as if dusting the dirt off, then stepped inside the house, slammed the door, and locked it.
“Do I need to call Sheriff Hayes?”Maeve asked.
“I don’t think so,” Eden said.“Maeve, what are you doing home?”
“As soon as I got your message, I was on the first flight home,” Maeve said. She walked toward her and cupped her cheeks.“Are you okay?Do I need to kick her ass some more?”
“No, it’s fine.It’s fine.”
Maeve was five years older than her and the best damn sister she could have hoped for. When their parents died in a car crash, Eden was just fifteen years old.A drunk driver in a large truck shoved their parents off the road.According to the doctors, they had died instantly and felt no pain.Maeve didn’t hesitate to take care of her sister.
At this point, Maeve was already a makeup artist in high demand.Eden didn’t stop her sister from traveling, but she made sure she didn’t cause any trouble. She knew if she did, there was a risk she’d end up in the “system,” and that was the last thing she wanted. She loved her sister, and now, as Maeve pulled her in for a hug, she was so grateful for her.
“Next time, that is how you handle a first-class bitch. You don’t deal with polite. You don’t hear their excuses, they are not worth it,” Maeve said.“Now, tell me we have hot chocolate and chocolate fudge ice cream, because that is what we need, and a rom-com.”
Eden laughed.
Then the laughter kind of died, and she pressed her hands against her face and started to sob.
“I’m so sorry.”
“Hey, hey, stop that,” Maeve said, putting her arms around her.“You have no reason to be sorry.I told you that bitch was a bitch, and I told you that son of a bitch was a son of a bitch.I’m glad you came to your senses.”
“I was going to sleep with him tonight, Maeve. That is why I went to the damn clubhouse.”
“You didn’t, did you?”Maeve asked.“If so, no judgment, because hot guys can make a girl’s mind go to mush. Not that I consider him hot.I mean, the guy is a loser—”
“I didn’t sleep with him.”
“Thank fuck for that.Ice cream, hot chocolate, and a rom-com.”Maeve cupped her cheeks.“And you can cry all you want.I will not judge you.Well, I might judge you a little bit, but that is my prerogative.”Maeve winked at her.
Through her tears, she couldn’t help but smile.“Thank you.For coming back, and for having my back.”
“This is what sisters are for.We will always have each other’s back.I love you, Eden, and we’re going to get through this. You and me.I know you cared about him.”
“I did.I thought I was falling in love with him.”
“And now you can forget all about him.”
Eden didn’t know if she would be that quick to forget him.

Razor sat at the bardrinking his beer.It had been a long day of moving shit out of the basement.Doc wanted to clear some of the old files away, and that had fallen to Razor, as he lost the freaking draw.
He hated dealing with filing and shit. He’d rather run errands around town or any other kind of shit. He’d have even taken manning the main bar in town that they owned, rather than deal with paperwork.Doc wanted to check over some figures.
