Maeve opened the door, and she was dressed in sweatpants and a crop top.She wore makeup as well, and he could tell it had just recently been applied.

“Hey,” Maeve said, stepping out of the way.“I’m starting to think I should charge you rent.”

He laughed.“Go ahead.I don’t mind.”

Maeve wrinkled her nose.“I’m just busting your balls.Eden’s up in her room.”He looked up the stairs and then reached out and grabbed Maeve’s arm, being careful not to hold her too tightly.

“What the—”

“I need to talk to you.”

“If you have cheated or hurt her in any way, I swear to fucking any saint that would listen, to allow your balls and dick to drop off right now.”

“What the hell? You need to think about yourself.I’m not cheating on her, and it’s nothing like that.Damn, woman, you need to get your head cleared or some shit and stop fucking cursing my dick and balls. That shit is nasty.”He couldn’t help but scrunch up his face.

He reached into his jacket pocket and handed her the velvet box.“Look.”

She rolled her eyes, then opened it.“Oh, wow, that is not a pair of earrings.”

“Earrings?”He shook his head.“Of course not.I want to ask your sister to marry me.”

“Marry you?”

“Yeah, marry me.I think that is a huge freaking deal.”

Maeve’s mouth was wide open.“Why would you want to marry my sister?”

He frowned, because clearly, he wasn’t speaking right.Glancing up the staircase, he checked to see if Eden had come out of her room, but there was no sign of her.He breathed a sigh of relief, because he did not want to get this wrong.

“I love her.I love her more than anything and I want to spend the rest of my life with this woman.”It felt so good to get that off his chest.

He looked toward Maeve, who started with a dumbfounded look on her face, which changed into a beaming smile.

“Thank you,” Maeve said.

This made him frown.“What?”

“For loving my sister. For not being a dirtbag.I did tell her there would be a man out there for her, and only for her.”

He knew to win Eden over completely, he needed to have her sister onboard.

“I’m going to need your help.I want this to be the best damn proposal she has ever experienced.”

Maeve clapped her hands together and then gasped, as they both, this time, turned to look toward the stairs. She let out a little whimper.

“Sorry, I’m just so freaking excited. This is good news. This is big news.”

He smiled at her.“You’re willing to help me?”

“You’ve got that straight, buster.I will help you with this.”

It had already been too long since he last saw Eden, and he was starting to feel the withdrawal.

Another glance upstairs, and he sighed.“Quickly, do you have any rough ideas?”he asked.

“Rough ideas? Not a clue. But then, Eden has never been interested in the whole marriage thing. She has always been more of a ...work person. She didn’t think men would want to date her, let alone marry her.”Maeve winced and shrugged.

“That doesn’t help me,” he said.
