“I may be busy and travel a lot, but I also listen to town gossip, and I know my sister.You’ve dated, but you’ve never gone too far.Not even with Mac, and trust me, I think that is a good thing.You might have had to go and get tested if you’d jumped in the sack with him.”
“Do you think that’s weird?”she asked.“Being a twenty-five-year-old virgin?”
“No, that’s not weird.I think it’s nice that you’ve not slept with every single man you knew, and that you didn’t give me a hard time when you were at that age when you could have been doing exactly that.”
Eden frowned.“Were you doing that?”
“Hell, no, I was focused on my career, and guys just didn’t appeal to me.”
“What do you mean?”
“I’m the kind of girl that likes a man.Not a boy, or a man boy.I can’t be dealing with that child in a man’s body.”Maeve wrinkled her nose.“It’s not attractive.I don’t want to have to baby someone, certainly not a partner, and trust me, I have watched a lot of couples end up like that.”
Eden couldn’t agree more.“You know, I saw Doc looking at you back at the fair a few months ago.”
Maeve shrugged.“He was asking about his daughter.You know what Razor asked me a few days later.Crap, I am supposed to be organizing that.I promised, and now I’m going to look unprofessional if I don’t.Shit.”
“Don’t panic.”
“No, I’m only as good as my reputation, and I do not like to let people down.”She let out a growl.“I’m sorry, but I am going to have to cramp your style.”
“What do you mean?”
“I’m coming with you tonight, and I will organize this thing with his daughter, and I can’t remember her name.”
“It’s Charlotte.”
“Charlotte, of course.I’m also going to need to check that Nancy is okay with me helping her daughter.”Maeve handed her the ice cream, and Eden took out the spoon and had a mouthful.Chocolate fudge ice cream was one of her favorite flavors, but she was also partial to peanut butter flavor.
Just as she put the ice cream in the freezer, there was a knock at her door.She made her way toward the door, and there was Razor, waiting with his leather jacket and that smile that made her feel weak inside.
“Hey,” she said.
“Are you ready to go?”he asked.
“Actually, there is a change of plans.Maeve is getting changed, and she is coming along.”
“Don’t wait for me,” Maeve said, suddenly appearing at the top of the stairs.
Eden looked up to her sister.“But you’re wanting to come, right?”
“I don’t need to worry about any kind of special code to get into the clubhouse, do I?”
“Not at all.”
“Is Doc even there?”Maeve asked.“I’m going to get dressed and ready and if he’s not there, there’s really no point in me going.”
“He’s there.”
Maeve nodded.“Good, I’m going to organize this thing for his daughter.I’ll see you guys there.Don’t wait for me.”
“You’re sure?”
“Yep,” Maeve said.“Trust me.I’m going to organize what I need to, and then I’m coming back home because I’ve got a date with ice cream.”
Eden grabbed her jacket.It was hot out, but from the looks of it, Razor had brought his bike.Razor had told her he wanted to take her for a ride, and she guessed now was the time he was going to do it.
