“Are you almost done?” I glanced at the guy in the chair, then back at Kane. I didn’t want to make him lose a customer, and I didn’t think it through when I barged through the door.

“I am.” He stood from the stool. “Give me a second,” he said to the guy.

The guy nodded, and Kane led me out of the room.

“Talk to me, Munch. What’s going on?”

“Do you have anyone after him?” I didn’t think it was a good idea to show him the email until after he was done, because I didn’t want him to be distracted. I really should have waited until he came home.

“No, but what’s wrong?” he asked again.

He rested his hands on my hips and stared into my face. I tried to keep my emotions in check, because if I let a single tear drop, he would have completely stopped his session, and that wasn’t what I wanted. The thought made me smile because I realized Kane didn’t play about me, and I loved that for me. I’d never experienced anyone who genuinely cared about my feelings besides my parents, Rameek, and Candace.

“It can wait. Can I watch you finish the tat, then I can tell you?”

He raised an eyebrow as his eyes searched my face.

“Of course you can, but the minute he walks out that door, you have to tell me. I know it’s something because you wouldn’t have barged in here like that.” He pulled me closer and kissed my lips. “I missed you, though.” He kissed me again.

“I missed you, too, and I promise.”

We shared another kiss, then he let me go before he led me back into the room. He apologized to the guy, and he seemed okay with it. He said he understood because his wife was thesame way sometimes. I wasn’t sure what he meant by thesame way,but I wasn’t offended by it. He and Kane just laughed, and Kane got back to work.

I sat and watched Kane do his thing for the next twenty minutes. The two of them talked about sports, and it briefly took my mind off the email. When Kane was done, he cleaned and wrapped the tattoo and sent the guy on his way.

Once it was the two of us in the room, I helped Kane clean up the leftover tissues and stuff while he cleaned his equipment. I was glad he waited because his whole mood would change once he read the email, and I knew how important the cleaning and sterilization stage was after each tattoo session. He explained everything he did one night while we were in bed.

“What got you busting through my door the way you did?” he asked as soon as we were finished.

I pulled my phone out of my pocket and passed it to him after opening the email.

“What the fuck?”

The email stated that Beast killed Kane’s dad because he wanted to be president so he could form an alliance between the Vipers and the Disciples because he wanted to get into the drug game. Apparently, my brother saw them talking one day, and that was why Beast killed him. He didn’t want his secret to get out. It also said how Beast had plans on getting rid of Kane as well because he knew Kane wouldn’t let him achieve his goal of selling drugs through the clubhouse.

I jumped when Kane shouted, “Muthafucka!” He paced around the room as I stood in the corner and watched him.

I didn’t say anything because I wanted him to process whatever he felt.

A minute or so passed before he stood in front of me. He put his hands on my shoulders and looked into my eyes.

“Raina, I need you to trust me.”

It was foreign hearing him call me by my real name, but I knew he was serious. He didn’t ask if I trusted him; he told me I had to, but I had no problem with it, because I trusted him with my life.

“I do.”

“I guarantee you he will pay for the shit he’s done. As much as I want to move impulsively, I know I can’t. He will die, and the shit won’t be quick. He has to suffer.”

The tone of his voice sent shivers up my spine. Beast was going to get whatever he deserved, and I couldn’t wait until it was over.

Once the news from that email sunk in, I fell into a slight depression. I had been doing good with dealing with Rameek’s death, but to find out the reason behind it set me back.

He was killed for nothing by a heartless person. None of it made sense to me. Why couldn’t Beast just leave the club and join Disciples? Why did innocent people have to die?

From what I’d seen, the Vipers were good people. They didn’t go around terrorizing the community, but they weren’t punks either. They actually gave back to the community.

I didn’t understand why Beast wanted to disrupt that. Selling drugs through the club went against everything the club stood for. He also was too damn old to have dreams of being a drug dealer. It was actually the stupidest idea.
