Maybe everything would be all right?
She leaned forward to throw her arms around his neck and plant a quick kiss on his mouth. “You could never lie to me.”
“But—”
“No buts. I always know when you try to hide the truth. There’s not a dishonest bone in your body, Domik Vo’Ress.”
Domik’s chest felt like it would explode with happiness. “But I lied about chess,” he protested.
“And I knew you were letting me win,” she said, pulling back from him slightly, her shoulders shaking as she tried not to laugh.
“You did?”
“Of course I did!”
“Then why didn’t you say something?”
“For the same reason you let me win, I imagine. I wanted an excuse to spend time with you, and I was too afraid to say anything in case you didn’t feel the same way.” Her eyes were soft as she smiled at him.
He gathered her to him, kissing her with all the pent up passion of the months they had spent dancing around each other. He slid his tongue along the seam to her lips, feeling a surge of joy as she moaned and her lips opened under his.
He bit back a groan as he nibbled on her bottom lip, teasing and licking as she became pliant in his arms. When he pulled his head away, she gave a little mewl of protest and he smiled against her closed lips, watching as her dazed eyes opened.
She smiled up at him, both oblivious to everyone around them, until a small cheer rose from the assembled medics.
Amelia stepped forward. “Congratulations, you two. We were wondering if you’d ever get the guts up to admit how you felt to each other.” She smiled. “Why don’t you go see Oren outside? He has a surprise for you both.”
“What is it?” CJ asked.
“I do not know,” Domik replied, standing and taking CJ’s hand in his.
Amelia just smiled conspiratorially and gave a shrug. “You’ll have to wait and see.”
Domik turned to CJ. “Shall we?”
She nodded. “Let’s see what this surprise is.”
