“But they acknowledge Taureans are real,” he said with a roll of his eyes. “The Taurean Purists don’t want a human alliance with Taurus. They want the Taurean genetic code to remain pure.” He emphasized the last word with a distasteful twist of his mouth. “It’s in the best interests of the Purists for humans to either be wiped out or to break the alliance with Taurus.”
The general rubbed his chin thoughtfully. “So you think these Purists are interfering, but they don’t really care what the outcome is of the Xakul attack, as long as Earth suffers.”
Domik nodded. “Exactly.”
“So, how are they interfering?”
“By providing arms to the resistance and encouraging them to cause trouble on Earth. And by attacking the Taurean fleet to prevent their arrival here in time to stop the Xakul attack - they were the reason the fleet was delayed and almost didn’t make it in time.”
The general pressed his lips together and reached for the comm button on his desk. “You’re right. This needs to go to Taurus High Command.”
CJ reached for Domik’s hand and gave it a squeeze, which he returned. A warm glow spread through his chest. Their job was done.
There was no reason to stick together now, was there?
As the thought sent a chill through him, he looked out of the expanse of glass to see a swarm of Xakul ships appear, heading directly toward them.
“Down! We’re under attack!” Domik yelled, grabbing CJ and throwing her to the floor, covering her with his body.
