She stared in horror as the flames licked at the doors of the pod. She felt her heart race faster and faster, her vision narrowing as she panted for air that just didn’t seem to be there.

I’m going to die. I’m going to burn alive or suffocate in space. Or both. At the same time.

She gasped, dragging air into her lungs.

The pod disengaged from the shuttle with a jerk, and then they were moving away, but not fast enough for CJ’s liking.

The walls of the pod pressed in on her, the space taken up by their bodies leaving no room to move. It was warm, and she struggled, thrashing around as she fought to get free. Her breathing became ragged as she lost control and began gasping for air.

Ripping the mask she still wore off, she turned her face away from Domik’s chest and sucked in delicious mouthfuls of cool, clean air.

“Oh god! Oh god! We’re going to die!” she cried; eyes wild as she stared up at him.

“Hush,” Domik said, his deep voice soothing and calm, breaking through her terror. “I have you. I won’t let anything happen to you.”

And she believed him. Her thrashing stilled, and she sagged in his arms. CJ forced herself to keep looking up at him, calming her breathing.

He wriggled an arm up to remove his face mask, tossing it down near their feet. A lighter triangle of bronze skin around his mouth and nose contrasted with the dark smudges around his eyes. Such dark eyes, the color of obsidian. Dark and dangerous. Deep and soulful. Strands of his hair floated around his head that had come loose from the thick braid that ran down the back of his head. The sides shaved to the skin, showing dark stubble, gave him a dangerous appearance, like a Nordic warrior of old.

“You will not die. Not today.” He stated, simply.

“No?”

He shook his head, smoothing his hand down her back and hummed in a low tone. Was he… singing to her?

A shudder shook the pod, and he lifted his hand to cradle her head against his chest as if to protect her

“What was that?” She squeezed her eyes shut, hands clenched tightly into fists against his chest, grabbing his flight suit.

“Explosion from the shuttle. Look,” he said, tilting his head toward the small window in the pod’s door.

CJ gasped at the sight spread out in front of them, like a space battle from a science fiction movie. The great expanse of Earth was spread out below. Darkness was descending, and millions of lights marking human cities, towns and industry twinkled beneath them. Against that backdrop, Xakul fighters shot every which way, zooming into and out of sight as quickly as CJ could blink. Shots of plasma appeared to take them down, looking like the fire appeared from nowhere, but really came from a cloaked Taurean ship.

As she watched, three Xakul ships fired in unison, apparently at nothing, and a Taurean ship lurched into being, the cloak damaged in the attack. CJ buried her head into Domik’s chest as she watched the Taurean vessel break up on impact, a series of explosions firing bright orange and winking out as quickly as they had started.

Nearest to them, the now almost unrecognizable mass of their shuttle broke apart, a small fireball winking out quickly and debris flying away from the craft. A Xakul ship appeared, flying straight at their pod, eliciting a strangled scream from CJ as she screwed her eyes shut and braced for a blast from the enemy guns that never came.

“We’re cloaked. They can’t see us,” Domik soothed, his hand running down her back once more.

Keep it together. You can’t show how weak you are.

“Oh, of course.” She gave a forced chuckle that sounded fake to her own ears. She was suddenly aware of just how much of Domik she could feel. He was a solid wall of muscle. Very warm muscle. Her booted feet were nestled between his legs, which were splayed open as far as the small pod would allow. Her knees were tucked in between his thighs, which brought the apex of her legs right in line with the significant bulge of his cock.

Don’t think about his dick.

The problem was, when you tried not to think about something, the opposite happened. CJ’s thoughts were flooded with images of Domik half-naked in change rooms after physical training, water running down his broad chest and over abs that disappeared into tiny running shorts.

What was it with Taureans and tiny running shorts?

He had the thickest thighs she had ever seen on a man. Male. Alien. Whatever. They were bigger than both of hers put together, and his ass?

CJ wriggled, trying to put some distance between her and Domik, but only making the situation worse as the thickness that nestled against her sex seemed to swell against her. The only sign that her movement had impacted Domik was a slight stiffening of his arms around her. And the slight stiffening of his—

Don’t think about it!

“So, what’s next?” CJ asked, turning her head to watch as the wrecked shuttle grew smaller, and releasing the handfuls of Domik’s flight suit she had gripped into tight fists.
