Hannah and Mark had taken off, and I was sure they were going to text him when they landed and if Wynn didn’t answer for a while, they’d contact me. I was sure of it.
“Are we sure he didn’t get onto a plane prior to them being grounded?” I presented that question to my security. Edward was on the phone trying to find that woman.
“Sir, I’m sure if any flight attendant saw a man dragging another man into the plane, they’d stop them,” Carl, an older man who was second to Edward, said.
“You’d think. I want all flights that took off before grounding to be checked.”
“Yes, sir.” He began the task, and I turned to Edward.
“Her name is Virginia Ladd. She is currently at the airport, seeing as her flight was delayed due to the closure.”
“Get her here.”
He nodded and made the arrangements. I was pacing the room like a caged lion. As soon as the gate opened, I was going to pounce. I just needed to know where Ridgeway was, and then I’d eat him alive.
Virginia arrived twenty minutes later and didn’t have much to offer.
“This detective said there was someone in distress in the bathroom, that a call came in and that the guy out front was holding him. I felt bad and he asked if I could distract the guy ’cause the police were on the way but he had to save the man in the bathroom.”
I blinked at her. “And what would you have done if this man you were distracting shot you?”
Her eyes widened. “In an airport?”
“According to this detective, he was holding a person against their will. What would stop him from hurting you?”
She gaped like a fish until Edward held out a photo of Ridgeway. “Is this the detective who approached you?”
“Uh, yeah…look, if I knew he was your partner, Your Highness, I would never have helped him.”
“Get her out of here.”
So it was confirmed; it was definitely Ridgeway. We’d all been pretty sure it was, but for some reason having that confirmation just enraged me more. How dare that motherfucker touch what’s mine!
CHAPTER THIRTY-SEVEN
Wynn
My eyes feltas though they were glued shut. They weren’t but damn, I was exhausted. I must have been napping hard. There was a mattress beneath me, so I had to be in a bed.Strange. I remembered hugging Hannah and Mark good-bye and then telling Francis I needed to go to the bathroom. Then nothing.
Slowly, I turned and a wave of dizziness overcame me, followed by nausea and yep, I was going to hurl. I tried to get up, but my arm was stopping me. I was going to vomit while chained to a bed.
That was when I realized I had no fucking idea where I was. Bile rose and, unable to stop myself, I threw up on the floor beside the bed.
“Midazolam is a bitch.”
I turned to the voice. Ridgeway was sitting in a chair in the corner of the room.
“What the…”
“I didn’t know what drug Julian used to sedate his victims before he dragged them off to kill them. I don’t think it’s what I gave you, though.” He shrugged.
“What are you…talking about?” A raging headache started to bloom behind my eyes.
“Don’t play dumb.” He leaned forward, glaring at me. “You know the kind of monster you’ve shackled yourself to.”
I lifted my arm, chains rattling. “You seem like the only monster right now.”
“Now you’re facetious.”
