“I’ll see you ladies tonight.”

Well, he’d see one of us. Lainey and Adam were watching Ruthie so we could be alone with zero chance of distractions—he just didn’t know it.

“I hope you get everything worked out with your permits.”

“I’m sure I will.”

At four o’clock, Lainey suggested we head back to her place. Jade and Kristy were already there, and all three ladies were going to help me get ready for my date tonight.

First, they had me try on the dresses they’d each brought for me to borrow.

Kristy’s red wrap dress with cap sleeves was by far the winner. The hem stopped just above my knees, and the wrap style hid my flaws while accentuating my cleavage—which lately was my best asset. Granted, my breasts were full of milk, but that’s what nursing bras were for.

Still, I was hesitant to agree to wear it.

“Are you sure you don’t mind? Sometimes my boobs leak. I would feel horrible if I ruined it.”

Lainey snorted. “She’s never going to wear it again anyway.”

I turned to Kristy. “You’re not?”

“No. It’s cursed.”

I slapped my hand on my hip. “So you want me to wear a cursed dress?”

“Not cursed in a bad way,” Lainey explained. “Just every time she wears it, the guy proposes on their next date.”

Jade waved her hand. “You’re already engaged, so you’ll be fine.”

“Wait. So, being proposed to is a bad thing?”

Lainey clarified, “It is if your name is Kristy Blanchard.”

Kristy shook her whole body, like a shiver had run through her. “Good god, just thinking about it makes me feel like I’m breaking out in hives.”

Lainey said, “If a guy wants her to break up with him, all he has to do is propose marriage.”

Kristy pointed out, “Or ask me to move in.”

Jade added with a smirk, “Or to meet his parents.”

Lainey added, “Or his kids.”

It soon became a game for them.

“Or go on a vacation together.”

“Or leave clothes at her condo.”

“Or a charging cable.”

“Definitely no toothbrushes.”

I laughed out loud. “Okay! I get it! She’s never settling down.”

Kristy frowned at my declaration. “Well, not never. I mean, someday. Just not anytime soon.”
