“There you are,” he said smoothly, his gaze shifting to Morgan briefly, then returning to me. “I’ve been looking everywhere.”
I forced a fake, polite smile. “For me?”
“Of course, for you,” he replied. “You slipped away from the reception before we could dance together.”
“I just needed a moment.”
“To yourself or with someone?” His voice took on a hard edge.
“She was with me. Not that it’s any of your business,” Morgan snapped.
Callum barely acknowledged her, his attention fixed on me. “Well, don’t be gone too long. People are asking where you are.”
“I’ll keep that in mind,” I said tightly.
He lingered for a few more seconds, then nodded and walked away.
Morgan exhaled. “That guy is obsessed with you.”
I didn’t disagree. “He gives me the creeps.”
“Don’t think about that.” Her smile returned. “I need all the deets on what went down with Jase and Dylan.”
“I’m not giving you a play-by-play right now,” I hissed, peeking into the hallway for agents.
She grinned. “At least tell me if it was good.”
I gave her a flat stare. “Really?”
She chuckled. “Okay, that was stupid. It was obviously good. But”—she tugged me closer—“what does this mean for the three of you? Are you guys going to see each other again?”
I exhaled slowly. “I don’t know.”
“That’s not an answer.”
“I don’thavean answer,” I shot back. “They currently live in Florida, and they’re about to start their first season of pro ball.” I wasn’t delusional. A couple of twenty-two-year-old professional athletes would have women throwing themselves at them every night. Why would they tie themselves to me? “Even if that weren’t the case, I can’t just date two guys at the same time.”
“Why not?”
I narrowed my eyes. “You know why.”
She knew damn well I did everything in my power to avoid scandals.
“Maybe you could date in secret. Fallon and Rhett did that for a while.”
That was true. My brother and his husband had managed to keep their relationship under wraps for months. However, it was probably easier because Rhett was one of his agents. No one ever questioned why they spent so much time together.
“Let’s say we could do that. There’s still the small detail that it’stwoguys. That doesn’t work in real life, does it?”
She shrugged. “There’s a rumor about those two Bruins players, Butcher and Sexton, that they’re supposedly in a throuple with some girl.”
I groaned. “That’s just tabloid bullshit.”
“Is it, though?” Morgan pressed. “You and I know that a lot of the time there is at least a little truth to the gossip.”
“Fallon was in the same fraternity as someone married to a Bruins player,” I admitted. “He’s never said anything.”
Then again, Fallon wouldn’t out someone’s relationship if they were trying to keep it quiet, and I’d seen pictures of those two players with a woman. They were definitely giving off relationship vibes.
