Felix freezes. “You’ve identified Gregor? Get up to my apartment now.” He ends the call and rushes to pull on a pair of pants. “Theo will be here in a minute to discuss Gregor.”

“Let me get dressed and join you.”

He takes a breath to calm himself, then kneels in front of me, holding my hands and gazing into my eyes. “Are you okay after the dream?”

“Yes. Of course.”

“We’ll finish this discussion later. I promise.”

“There’s nothing to discuss.”

“You’re not hiding from this conversation. Yourhappiness is everything to me.” His lips press to mine then he passes me my dressing gown.

Within five minutes, I’m sitting on Felix’s lap in the living room, listening to Theo as he serves himself a drink from the cocktail cart. Ice clinks against crystal as he pours.

“I paid a visit to our friend Beaumont at his club. Caught him in his office with his dick in a woman who wasn’t his wife. I let the lady run off while holding him at gunpoint. Told him I’d spare his life and keep his indiscretion a secret if he cooperated by answering my questions.”

Felix drapes my legs over his lap, stroking my calves absentmindedly while focusing on Theo’s words. “What information did you get out of him?”

“Gregor’s real name is Quentin Ferguson. He’s not a cop. Whatever he told you was a lie so you’d let him escape.”

“If he’s not a cop, how the fuck did he link Paul’s murder back to me?”

Theo lowers to the armchair opposite us, swirling his drink. “Once I learned Quentin’s real name, I looked into his history. He was in the police force for a few years then switched to being a freelance private investigator. His license was revoked recently for immoral practices. I’m guessing those immoral measures he took were how he traced the murder to you.”

“What’s his connection with Beaumont?” Felix asks.

“Ferguson has had his eye on you for a while but was looking for a way to get close. When he heard you weresearching for a developer, he blackmailed Beaumont into recommending him.”

“Blackmailed with what information?”

Theo raises a brow, sickened. “Apparently not all of Beaumont’s extra-curricular activities outside his marriage are with people of legal age.”

Shocked silence settles over us before Felix asks, “What happened next?”

Theo laughs. “I put a bullet in his head.”

Felix nods in approval. “As for Quentin, what else have you found on him?”

“He’s been left with a massive fortune, being the last in the Ferguson line. No extended family. No spouse or kids. He’s unemployed.”

“In simple terms, his death will be easy to cover up.”

“Exactly.” Theo lifts his glass in a mock toast.

“Track him down and kill him,” Felix orders without a second of hesitation.

I’m still adjusting to Felix’s world and gulp down surprise at how easily he throws out the command. I shouldn’t find this side of Felix attractive, but I do. I love witnessing all of him and how fierce he can be.

There’s darkness in me too. I’ve spent my life trying to suppress it. Not anymore.

Being with Felix, I’m living outside the law. Not only do I want to see Quentin Ferguson dead, butIwant to be the one who kills him. If he comes anywhere near me, I’ll stab my dagger into his heart and I won’t feel an ounce of remorse.

CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE

TYLER

When I took time off from work to find myself and mend family relationships, I didn’t envision this time would involve stalking my ex-girlfriend. But here we are. A stakeout in my car as I wait for Harper to leave the theater.
