I’m itching for a fight. My fist is clenched so tight, I can feel the bite of my nails digging into my skin. I wait for him to utter the words so I can slam my fist into his smug mug.
“I can give you every detail of how I…”
A body brushes against mine. Soft hands land on my chest, those familiar tingles coming to the surface.
Jessica.
“Matthew.”
I glare at Damien over the top of her head, the adrenaline coursing through my body making my ears buzz.
That smirk on the asshole’s face grows bigger, and my eyes zero in on his mouth. “A girl’s gotta save you?”
I grind my teeth, but gentle fingers brush against my jaw, cupping my cheeks.
“Matthew, look at me.”
Her tone is firm.
Insistent.
Unyielding.
I can’t refuse her.
I’ve never been able to refuse her.
Since the moment she entered my life, she’s slowly snuck under my skin. My downfall and my salvation.
CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR
JESSICA
“He’s driving me crazy!” Mae announces as she slides into the chair next to mine, shooting daggers at Nico, who’s talking to one of his colleagues, but I’m pretty sure he’s listening to every single word that comes out of her mouth. That man hardly misses anything where she’s concerned.
“I think the feeling is mutual.”
Mae elbows me. “Whose side are you on?”
“Yours. However…”
“Mine. Period.”
I chuckle at her stubbornness but don’t press further. Mae is like a cat. She’ll attack if backed into a corner.
Shaking my head, I spot a familiar figure from the corner of my eye. When I turn around, I have to do a double take.
Aiden and Eva are sitting together at one of the tables, chatting like two best buddies. What’s up with that?
“Shit.”
Mae’s tone draws my attention, but she’s looking toward the bar.
My brows pull together. “What’s— Shit.”
This is bad.
Like really bad.
