But each time I tried to take that step, my brain kept me moving forward. Because… fuck that guy. I wanted my freedom, but more than that, I wanted justice. I wanted to make sure that poor girl was safe. Especially if Dom was as dangerous as I suspected.

So I marched forward, letting my captors shield me from the crowd with their bodies until we pushed through the red-lit hallway and out the side alley door.

My ears rang as the pulsing club music faded behind the heavy metal door, replaced with drunken murmurs and laughter of the patrons haunting the outside.

And down the alley, through the glow of the neon signs, I saw the man guiding the girl into the back seat of a beat-up black sedan. Her limbs were already growing heavy from whatever he’d slipped into her drink, but he didn’t seem to mind — he simply reached down and tossed her limp leg into the footwell, slamming the door behind her.

“We tail.” Dom growled. “Don’t stop him — not until he gets her to the drop point. The Oracle will want a detailed report of the location, so don’t get caught.”

Nodding, Spencer wrapped her hand around mine and jogged over to her bike, pulling me along with her. But I couldn’t keep my eyes off of the black sedan as the driver’s door slammed and the engine roared to life.

It wasn’t until Spence was on her bike, handing me a helmet, that my stomach really began to turn. I had no clue where we were going. I’d sacrificed every opportunity to run. And for all I knew, what waited for me on the other side of this ride was some massive trap.

But the scumbag’s car was already peeling away, Dom and Leo tight on his trail. And if I didn’t move now, we were going to lose him.

So I hopped on the back of the bike, wrapped my arms tight around Spencer, and prayed against all logic that my so-called saviors would protect me. That I was worth more to them than whatever price was hanging over my head.

I heldtight onto Spencer’s back, keeping my head pressed between her shoulder blades as the cityscape around us morphed into sprawling, rural fields. It was impossible to keep my mind from drifting back to the night they’d found me, the first time I’d ever ridden on the back of this bike.

Though this time, I wasn’t the one who needed saving.

Within minutes, we were miles from the bar we’d followed this guy from. In fact, we were miles from anywhere it seemed. Just acres and acres of fields dotted every few minutes by a small farm house.

It was a wonder he didn’t notice the three bikes tailing him. My captors had cut the lights as soon as we left city limits, but the fact that we were the only ones out here should have made us way more conspicuous.

Probably preoccupied with his passenger.

Just the thought of what might be happening in that car made my blood boil with rage.

My mind didn’t have long to imagine it before his car pulled abruptly to the side of the road. For a minute, I thought he might have lost control of the car in some force majeure.

But God was rarely that merciful.

The bikes quickly followed suit, pulling into the brush fifty feet back.

“What is he…?” I found myself asking before Spencer placed a hand on my thigh, silently signalling for quiet. She, Dom, and Leo all kept their eyes glued ahead, visors lifted for a better view.

I lifted my own visor as I squinted through his rearview window, trying to make out the dark shadow shifting around in the car as he killed the engine. But seeing him became a lot easier as he threw open the driver’s door and stood from the car.

This couldn’t be the drop point, right?

No, it was far too isolated for that.

Instead, he opened the back door of the car and lumbered in beside the girl. My stomach lurched as the door slammed behind him.

Oh my god. Is he trying to…?

Kidnapping the poor girl wasn’t enough — this fucker had to have a taste before he delivered the merchandise.

As I watched his shadow descend over her, all I could think of was Dom’s order before we hopped onto the bikes. The Oracle wanted information, not intervention.

And based on everything I’d heard about the mysterious organization, I was about to make a very powerful enemy.

But before I could swing my leg over the back of the Suzuki, my savior was up. All of them were, flicking on their headlights as Leo barked at me over her shoulder. “Stay put.”
