We were, but only in private. Which was what we both wanted.

I didn’t think either of us had anticipated how difficult that would be. True to his word, Dominic hadn’t ignored me once. Hadn’t ditched me when Max appeared either. Instead, he’d tell my twin that either I could join them, or he’d see him later.

Max never chose the first option. Not even once.

It was getting to Dominic. I’d seen him glaring after Max on more than one occasion. It hurt, but not in the way I might’ve expected. I wasn’t upset that Max was deliberately excluding me, but because in doing so, he was hurting Dominic.

It was kind of ironic that once it had been Dominic who’d come between Max and me, given it was now me coming between the two of them. I wasn’t trying to, I swear. Alright, so maybe the first couple of times Dominic chose me over Max, there was a bit of smugness. Just a tad. What? I was only human. But when I realised the position it was putting Dominic in? The discomfort he was feeling being made to choose?

Suddenly, it didn’t feel so good.

Even with Max flat out refusing to let me join them, my time with Dominic was limited. We shared bus journeys together, Dominic silently slipping me a blueberry muffin most days. In college, we had these stolen moments between classes where we couldn’t even touch each other. After, there were my art classes, paper round, and revision. Dominic had his shifts at the chippy, although I’d started hanging out there during those. It was rarely busy and his boss didn’t care.

Right now, I’d take whatever time I could get with Dominic, even if there were a couple of deep fat fryers in between us.

“Do you not need your A-levels for whatever you’ve got planned in September?” I asked.

“Nah.” Dominic shrugged. “I’m not planning on university.”

“What are you planning?”

“This and that,” he said, slowing suddenly, his eyes catching on a door to the right. “You’ve got a free period now, right?”

“Yes,” I said, my lips twitching. “Did you have something in mind?”

Glancing up and down the corridor, Dominic opened the door and poked his head inside. “Come on.”

My brows hit my hairline. “Here?”

“Where’s your sense of adventure, Shadow?” Dominic grabbed my collar and hauled me forwards. Fuck, that was sexy. I loved the way he hauled me around sometimes. “Think how much easier your statistics class will be if you’re fresh off an orgasm.”

“We might get caught.” My protest was weak, and not at all helped by the fact I let him tug me inside the storage cupboard. Or that I shoved him up against the now-closed door and pressed my erection against his. “We’ll have to be quiet. So quiet.”

He smirked, his fingers trailing down my front until they rested just above my waistband. “Good thing we’ve had lots of practise.”

He wasn’t exaggerating. We’d become masters of the silent orgasm over the past few weeks. It was undeniably hot. There’d been many times when Dominic had had to silence my moans with his hand or mouth.

Part of me wondered how much hotter it would be if we knew there was no chance of being overheard. How loud Dominicmight moan my name. I was fucking dying to know, but it wasn’t like that’d be happening any time soon.

Maybe when I’m at uni. I’ll have my own space there.

A tingle went through me at the thought. Would Dominic want to visit me? Would we even still be together then?

We hadn’t discussed it, but I couldn’t see why we wouldn’t be, especially if Dominic wasn’t going to uni himself. I was fully in this for the long haul, and from everything Dominic had said, so was he.

I still couldn’t quite believe it. Sometimes, I had to pinch myself to prove this was my real life and not a dream.

Right now was one of those times. Dominic’s dextrous fingers flicked open the button on my trousers and lowered the zip. “What do you fancy, Ry?”

“You,” I said without thinking. “I fancy you.”

“Aww.” He grinned, kissing the end of my nose. “You’re adorable, Shadow.”

“Fuck off.” I shoved away with a scowl as embarrassment flooded me. “Don’t take the piss, Dom.”

“Hey.” He moved fast, cupping my face in his hands. “I’m not, baby. I mean it. You’re fucking adorable, and Ilovethat. I love that you fancy me.”

I tried not to fixate on one word in that sentence. It didn’t mean anything that he’d said it twice. Besides, it was far too soon for that. “Really?”
