‘How are you feeling?’

Lara led the way to the guest room. ‘Much better. Especially now you’re here. I’ve been so busy today that, other than first thing this morning, I haven’t had time to wallow. The text did make my heart do a peculiar little flip, but that was a fleeting moment, and I’m okay, I think. I only met the guy the other day so I need to remind myself that I didn’t’ really know him. Even if it felt as if I’d known him all my life. This is it. Ta Dah. Not much, I know but it’ll be better next time you come.’

‘It’s beautiful, Lara. It really is. I’m not just saying that.’ Jenny put her holdall beside the bed and looked around the room. ‘I love the curtains and the bedding and the colour of the walls. You honestly did all this today?’

‘Yep.’

‘I’m impressed. I love it.’

Lara beamed at her. ‘Excellent. Now let’s open that champagne.’

‘I want to see your bedroom first. And this famous cat of yours.’

‘My room isn’t painted yet. But this is it. And that is Nicodemus.’ He was curled up on her bed, fast asleep.

‘Okay. I’ll admit he looks cute. I can’t wait to see the view from here tomorrow morning. It looked amazing on the photos you sent.’

‘It is. The weather is supposed to be good again tomorrow so you’ll see it in all its glory. Mind you. It looks pretty good on a bad weather day too, but I’m hoping we won’t get one of those until the roof is finished.’
