‘What’s he like?’ Lucy asked. ‘I haven’t met him.’
Sam shook his head. ‘Nor have I. I’ve known Marcus for years, but I believe Jasper only moved back here recently. Very recently. Like, maybe the end of last week.’
‘Really?’ Lucy seemed surprised. ‘I don’t recall Marcus or Adele or anyone mentioning that. From where?’
‘I’m not sure anyone knew he was coming. Until he arrived. From Canada, I think. Although don’t quote me on that.’
‘Ooh,’ I said. ‘Canada. Is he a hunky, mountain man type of guy?’
Sam grinned. ‘As I said. I haven’t met him. And … there are cities and towns in Canada, you know. Not merely mountains.’
‘Yeah. But what’s the fun in that? City types are ten a penny. Mountain men are … well, less plentiful.’
‘Perhaps he looks like Jason Momoa,’ Lucy said.
‘He’s Hawaiian. Not Canadian,’ I pointed out.
‘I know. I didn’t say he was Canadian. But he does have that whole, mountain man look.’
‘You think so? Yeah, perhaps. I’m thinking more … Chris Hemsworth. When he played Thor.’
‘Isn’t he Australian?’ Sam said, and Lucy and I both stared at him. ‘What?’
We laughed.
‘You really are one of us,’ Lucy said, hugging him to her.
‘I need that drink,’ he said, shaking his head and laughing. ‘And we were talking about a wedding, weren’t we? Not about mountain men. Which, I have to say, is making me feel slightly inadequate.’
‘You’re far from inadequate, Sam.’ Lucy kissed him on the cheek. ‘A mountain man has nothing on you.’
‘Can we change the subject, please?’ He laughed.
I grinned. ‘Certainly. Oooh! Will we need an electrician for this wedding? ‘Only … I bumped into one yesterday, and I’d love an excuse to find him. He wasn’t exactly a mountain man, but he was tall, tanned, broad shouldered, and really hot. Apart from the flip flops.’
‘What’s wrong with flip flops?’ Sam asked.
‘Nothing. If you’re a girl. They’re not very manly, are they?’
‘Aren’t they? I wear flip flops on the beach in the summer.’
‘Oh, Sam,’ I said, playfully tapping his hand. ‘We all have our little faults.’
Sam bent his head and pretended to bang it on the table.
