‘It is. And speaking of weddings, I know this isn’t the time or the place, and we’ve only been dating for one week, but if you’re not doing anything much for the rest of your life, would you consider spending it with me, do you think?’

He heard her gasp and saw the love in her eyes as they sparkled at him.

‘Are you … are you asking me what I think you’re asking?’

‘I am. But I’ll ask you properly later.’

‘Then yes. I will consider it. In fact, I don’t have to consider it. I can tell you right now. I would love to spend the rest of my life with you.’

‘That’s excellent news. We’ll discuss this in more detail later. I love you, Hanna.’

‘And I love you, Russell. But don’t you have to be over there? Not standing here holding my hand.’

‘What? Oh yes.’ He gave her another quick kiss and dashed off to stand beside Griff, just seconds before the musicians began playing the music Grace had chosen for her walk down the aisle. It was Pachelbel’s Canon, or Canon in D as it was often called.

Such a beautiful piece of music for such a glorious day, and the look on Griff’s face as Grace walked towards him, with her father by her side, said more than words ever could, matched only by the look on Grace’s face, her eyes fixed firmly on Griff, the man who was about to become her husband. The man whom everyone could see Grace adored.

A tear sprung up at the corner of Hanna’s eye. Griff looked gorgeous, and Grace was definitely a beautiful bride, but Hanna’s gaze was drawn to Russell. She only had eyes for him.

Russell met her eyes and smiled his dazzling smile. A smile just for her. A smile that told her that he was thinking the same thing she was. That one day soon, in the not so distant future, Hanna Shaw would be walking down this very aisle in this very church to become Russell Betancourt’s wife.

She didn’t have a father to walk down the aisle beside her, but she did have an aunt. An aunt who would happily perform such a duty.

And Hanna didn’t care how much the village might gossip about how fast their marriage was, because as far as Hanna was concerned her own wedding day couldn’t come fast enough.

And from what Russell had just said to her, it seemed he agreed wholeheartedly.
