Brodie asked, “What field?”

The man looked at Brodie. “I do not know, sir.”

“Shit!” Brodie lowered the rifle, and his eyes landed on a large metaltable in the center of the room, where about four dozen blood vials were held in a rack. Each was labeled in black marker. He moved closer and spotted three vials that said:D. KIM.

He stared at the tubes, and at the few milliliters of blood that represented all that David Kim was worth to this whole evil enterprise. He looked at the other names on the blood vials. Dozens of names. A few of them were labeledT. QASIM. He spotted vials with his and Taylor’s names as well. The rest of the names all looked non-European. Whoever these people were, they were probably dead now.

Brodie turned toward Stellmacher and gestured at the blood vials. “Who are these people?”

“Th-they are…”

“Are they alive?”

Stellmacher shook his head.

Brodie raised his rifle again toward Stellmacher. “One of them is still alive, and I’m going to kill you unless you help him. Do you understand?”

The man glanced at his dead colleague in the chair and nodded.

“Do you have a treatment for the plague?”

Stellmacher stared at the barrel of the rifle and nodded again. “The engineers developed a novel antibiotic.”

“I hope you have the antibiotic here or you’re dead.”

“Yes. Here.”

“Get it. Now.”

Stellmacher ran to a small fridge.

Taylor said in a low voice, “We need to escort him back to David. To make sure he actually administers the antibiotic instead of escaping.”

Well… maybe. But they had an obligation to get out of this bunker alive to share the Intel they’d gathered. Not to mention that Scott Brodie had a very personal interest in finding Charles Granger… finding Odin.

Brodie said, “Stellmacher works here and if he runs into anyone, he can make up a legitimate reason for going to see Kim. We’re a liability to him.”

Taylor considered that as Stellmacher returned with two IV bags along with tubes and needles.

Brodie said, “Pack it. And you’ll need a flashlight.”

The man retrieved a large medical bag from a cabinet, and he pulled aflashlight off a wall-mounted bracket. He packed the medication and gear with trembling hands.

Brodie asked, “Do you have a map of this place?”

Stellmacher nodded.

“Get it. Quickly.”

The man ran over to a filing cabinet and retrieved a map, and Brodie unfolded it on the table. The map showed a network of tunnels and rooms.

Brodie asked, “Where are we?”

Stellmacher pointed to a room toward the top center of the map.

Taylor asked, “Where are the exits?”

“One exit,” said Stellmacher. He pointed to an X in one of the hallways toward the bottom left of the map. “This leads to a subbasement in the Titan Genetics building.”
