“No, of course not. I was mistaken,” Dash said.
He took a deep breath, inhaling a lung full of spicy alpha pheromones. Releasing it quickly, he latched onto either side of his seat with a white-knuckled grip.
They stared at one another in silence, longer than what was appropriate. Emerson’s chest rose and fell too quickly, his lips parted. His lids grew heavier, eyes darkening. Dash’s gaze slid down Emerson’s frame and stopped at the thick imprint of a hard cock pushing against the zipper and towards him. Mouth drying, he could only envision himself going to his knees at Emerson’s feet and begging for a taste.
A tremor rolled down his spine, and it grew even harder to breathe.
Emerson took a couple more steps closer. “Whatareyou?”
Dash blinked a few times, the question as good as ice water. Too bad it wasn’t enough to douseallthe desire burning within. “What do you mean?”
“I’ve never felt a reaction like this to an alpha before.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Dash said, sitting up straighter. He scanned his nearly empty desk, wishing he had a pile of papers scattered about so he could straighten them up and have a reason to avoid Emerson’s gaze. “You need to leave.”
“Answer my question,” Emerson demanded, taking two more steps closer, seemingly more confident with each.
“What am I? A very busy man who doesn’t have time for this.”
Emerson moved directly in front of Dash’s desk and leaned over, his big hands curled into fists as they pressed against the dark teak surface. He inhaled deeply, holding Dash’s gaze. “You don’t smell like any alpha I’ve ever met.” He frowned. “And yet… all I scent is alpha.”
“Good to know.”
“I need to know why you make me feel like this,” Emerson said.
“I can’t control how you feel, Emerson,” Dash said.
When Emerson attempted to round the desk, Dash leapt to his feet and marched to his office door. He eyed Emerson and waved a hand toward the front door.“Get out.”
Emerson growled, and the sound traveled up Dash’s spine. Weak-kneed, he used every ounce of strength to remain standing. Emerson slowly stalked closer. Dash froze to the spot, refusing to show any fear. If he ran, he sensed Emerson would give chase.
Oh, what fun that could be.
Dash closed his eyes for a few seconds, willing himself to stop thinking like that. When the alpha stopped mere inches away, he feared Emerson would see him trembling all over.
He stared at the floor, sure lust shone in his eyes. He refused to give himself away. If Emerson got any closer, he was going to lose it. And loseeverythingalong with it.
“Are you sure you want me to leave?”
No…“Yes.”
Emerson took a step closer to him, not the door.
Dash stiffened.“Go!”
Emerson ignored him. They were so close, they were almost touching. “Look me in the eyes and tell me you want me to go.”
Dash closed his eyes for a couple of rapid heartbeats, not sure if he had the strength to tell Emerson to leave. Not if captured in the man’s gaze. Forcing his eyes up, he locked on Emerson’s filled with lust. He doubted his appeared much different. After swallowing the lump in his throat, Dash forced the words from his lips. “I… want you…”
Emerson leaned a little closer, their lips a whisper away from touching.
Dash held his breath, the promise of that kiss so powerful that it threatened his self-control. If he swayed forward, he’d finally learn how it felt to kiss another alpha. Dash angled his head up, the warmth of Emerson’s mouth drawing him closer.
Emerson lifted a hand, caressing Dash’s cheek with the back of it. Too much, Dash recoiled, glaring at the alpha.
“To go. I want youto go.”
Emerson’s eyes narrowed, but he didn’t move.
