He’d never thought about that before.

After a few seconds, he clapped Xaydin on the back. “When are we leaving?”

He shrugged the imposter’s touch away. “As soon as Gisela’s ready.”

“Good.”

Xaydin took a step forward. And the moment he did, he felt a fierce sharp pain in his side. An instant later, he felt another one.

It wasn’t until the third pain that he realized he was being stabbed.

Staggering back, he coughed and gasped. Just as the imposter went to stab him a fourth time, a fierce screech sounded.

Xaydin barely recognized Gisela before she turned into a giant ogre and rushed them. She grabbed the imposter. One moment, he was standing over Xaydin and the next, he was rebounding off the wall across from him.

He wanted to help and to defend her, but the pain was overwhelming. More than that, it caused a fierce buzzing in his ears. One so bad that he could barely hear anything.

Unable to stand it, he tried to step toward her.

Instead, he fell.

Then everything went dark.

Gisela’s heart pounded as she saw Xaydin fall. Fury unlike anything she’d ever experienced before rushed through her. She wanted to run to him, but first she had to take care of the bastard who’d tried to kill him.

Wanting blood, she lunged for the imposter. But before she could reach him, he vanished.

Or at least that was what she thought until he reappeared beside her, along with a man she didn’t recognize.

Before she could react, the imposter turned into a rat and the man had the imposter trapped inside a cage.

Grateful the matter was taken care of for the moment, she ran toward Xaydin who was on the ground, bleeding.

Biting her lip, she tried to think of what she could do. While she’d seen others bleed like this, she’d never tried to stop it. Mostly because she’d been the reason they were bleeding in the first place, and she’d wanted them to die.

Now…

How did she stop it?

The unknown man cursed as he knelt beside her. He pulled off his shirt and ripped a strip of cloth from it and balled it up.“Hold this.” He showed her how to put pressure on the wound in Xaydin’s side.

“Who are you?” she asked.

“Ronan. I’m a friend of Xaydin’s.”

Her breath caught at a name she recognized from her mother. “You’re an Outlaw.”

He nodded. “You must be Gisela. Xaydin was just telling me you were traveling with him.”

That confirmed the fact that he wasn’t lying. “Please help me save him.”

“I will. Keep the pressure on that wound.”

While she did so, he ran off.

What the hell? Stunned, she was tempted to go after him and would have had he not come back within a few seconds.
