Tanis bit her lip as she found herself alone on the edge of the human town she’d been so desperate to find. How she despised being here.
Years ago, she’d sworn to never venture near a human village again. To never even fly over one of their settlements.
Over and over, she could hear them cheering for her defeat. Or worse, cheering whenever she’d been forced to kill another so that she could live.
Those who’d made bets on her life.
Bets on her death.

For some unknown reason, fate had brought her back to them. Why? She couldn’t imagine. Had she not suffered enough in her life? What more would they take from her?
They’d already taken everything that mattered.
Her dignity.
Her honor.
