So why was he changing into it now?

“Caleb!” Lilliana breathed as she watched his skin fade from blood red to a beautiful tawny color. His yellow eyes turned dark brown and his hair became as black as night. Never had she seen a more handsome man.

To her utter shock, he passed a sheepish smile to her. “This is what I really look like.”

Breathless, she reached out slowly to touch his whiskered cheek. “Why would you hide such beauty?”

“I look like my father, and I hate him with every begrudging breath I draw in.”

“You shouldn’t let him steal any part of you. If you hate him so, then waste no time worrying about him, his ideas, or his looks. Otherwise, he owns that part of you for free. Don’t let him have it.”

“Huh…” Malphas had never thought of it that way. Especially given that he’d always hated and resented his father. He didn’t think of it as being possessive, it just was.

But Lilliana was right. It did allow his father to dominate an area of his life and dictate his behavior.

Screw Jaden.

With a smile, Lilliana leaned forward. “I would never hide such beauty. You’re amazing.”

“Amazing enough for a kiss?” He’d meant it as a flippant taunt.

She didn’t take it that way. Wrinkling her nose, she leaned forward and innocently placed her lips against his.

Malphas smiled at what had to be the most chaste kiss he’d ever known. She tasted of warmth and sweetness. Of everything he’d been denied in his life.

Of everything he’d ever wanted. He deepened the kiss, amazed even more that it didn’t scare her. Amazed that she welcomed his touch.

How?

He was evil incarnate. Held no regard for anyone or anything. He’d picked his teeth with the bones of humans twice her size.

You hate them.

But there was no hate inside him for this woman. Tiny as she was, she crippled him.

You need to push her away.

How could he? He was desperate to feel her beside him. And then the most shocking thing of all happened.

His side healed. Gasping, he felt his wings burst out of his back. Like his side, his injured wing was back to normal. No pain. Not even a ruffled feather.

No… it wasn’t possible. Granted he normally healed much faster than humans, but this…

How? It didn’t make any sense whatsoever. He didn’t have the powers to heal. Malphas was a creature of utter destruction.

Chaos.

Your father can heal.

True. As a god of light, Jaden held the powers of creation and healing. Malphas had thought that was beyond him.

Until now.

“What have you done to me?”

She blinked innocently. “I don’t understand?”

He pulled the bandage away to show her that not even a scar remained. “I’m healed.”
