Nick screwed his face up, then slapped Ambrose’s arm. “You perv! You married an infant?”
“What?”
Kody rolled her eyes. “I’m twenty-one when we first meet. Not an infant. Physically, we’re just a couple of years apart in age.”
Nick shook his head. “I’m so grossed out right now. I need a minute.” He curled his lip. “I’m like an ancient, nasty man when we meet!”
Ambrose arched a brow at that. “Physically, I’m twenty-four.”
With an irritated smirk, Kody crossed her arms over her chest. “Do you know how much older Acheron will be than his wife? Or Kyrian?”
“Or how much older I was than my wife?” Caleb added. “Trust me, age loses all meaning when you live for centuries.”
“Yeah, but I’m a teenager. That’s not the state of my head. Ew! You people are so nasty!”
But at least that explained why Ambrose had held no knowledge of Kody when Nick first met him. They hadn’t met before Ambrose came back in time to knock sense into Nick.
Which made Nick think of something else as he looked at Kody. “Doesn’t this make you a cougar?”
Rolling her eyes, she looked from him to Ambrose. “Why did I ever fall in love with either of you?” She held a hand out toward Ambrose. “You frustrated me on so many levels. And you …” She glared at Nick. “Why? Why? Why? I willneverunderstand what I saw in either one of you. My dad was right. I could have done so much better.”
“What?”
“Pardon?”
They spoke simultaneously.
“Ah now, don’t you even act offended. Either of you. And you don’t want to know what Acheron said when I brought your sorry butt home.”
Ambrose snorted. “That, I can only imagine. I swear I hear it in my head. Especially given what he said to my face.”
“Yeah,” Kody agreed. “His reaction was second only to when Simi came home with her boyfriend.”
Ambrose laughed. “That, I know all too well about.”
“I know you do.” Kody shook her head. “I remember you filling me in on the details about how she met her husband, and what Uncle Uh-Oh did when she broughthimhome the first time.”
Nick was confused. “Uncle Uh-Oh?”
She gave the most beautiful smile Nick had ever seen. “It’s what I called Ash when I was little. I couldn’t quite say Ash or Acheron, so my dad taught me to call him Uncle Uh-Oh.”
Another laugh rumbled out of Ambrose. “That sounds like Styxx. He’s always picking at Ash in a way no one else dares … not even me.”
“That’s because we never know when his love for us will end and his PTSD is going to kick in and make him strangle us.”
A dark light appeared in Ambrose’s eyes.
Nick backed off, realizing he must have plucked some future memory Ambrose had that he was missing. Since he didn’t want to do any more damage to the timeline, he backed off and didn’t ask the question that was burning inside him.
What happened?
That was for another day.
Right now, they had something much larger to deal with.
Nick sighed. “I guess we need to start comparing notes to see who knows what.”
“What do you mean?” Ambrose asked.
