Mordacity crossed her arms over her chest. “I told all of you that I have no idea who set me up.”
“But I do.”
Nero jerked at the sound of another male voice intruding from the darkest corner of the room. “What the hell?”
Jayne didn’t react as she saw her brother-in-law step forward.
Jinx sized their group up with a warning look that told them, Trisani or not, Jinx was at the top of this food chain.
His long white-blond hair was pulled back into a braid that fell to the middle of his back. His leather League uniform fit his muscled physique to perfection and announced to any and all onlookers that he was the best of their assassin core.
Which was how he’d no doubt found them in spite of the Tavali shielding.
Standing taller than Nero but just a tad shorter than Hadrian, he was an impressive sight. “You okay, Jaynie?”
“Fine.”
“Good.” He lifted his dark sunglasses up to rest on top of his head, which took a degree of the lethal aura away from him.
But not much.
Jinx inclined his head to Hadrian’s brother. “Nero Scalera. At last we meet.”
“I don’t know you.”
“You don’t have to. You have a League file so thick, it reads like an Andarion history text.” He paused for a second.
“Should I be nervous?” Mordacity asked.
Jinx smirked. “Jaded. Nice.”
Nero turned his scowl toward Jayne. “What’s he babbling on about?”
She shrugged. “He often has voices in his head like a Trisani. Only these are delusional. You kind of get used to it.”
Jinx passed an irritated smirk at Jayne. “Your mistake, Scalera, was that the other felon you escaped prison with was captured. Tortured. Gutted. He gave up everything he had on you and Syn. All that info Syn had purged for you was returned to the League database.” He tapped his wrist, and a deep voice filled the room.
“Nero Ashter Gordian Scalera. Eldest surviving son of Gisella Verona Scalera and Gaius Ashterius Valeran Scalera both deceased on 8522.23.12 on–”
“Enough.” Nero flinched. “I get it. I should have had Syn keep an eye on my files.”
Inclining his head, Jinx cut the transmission. “So, the League is now aware both you and little brother survived the holocaust.”
Which meant anyone could find out Hadrian was alive.
Ouch.
Jayne crossed her arms over her chest. “So, who did this?”
Jinx shrugged. “Don’t know. Don’t care. My one and only is getting you back to Eve, safe and sound. They are big grown men and are on their own.”
Nero screwed his face up. “Really?”
Jinx straightened up. “Meaning?”
“She came after my brother. I think you’re overlooking the law that ties their lives together now.”
“I think you’re overlooking the fact that Iamthe law.”
