Chapter Twenty-Five

They both stared silentlyout of the car windshield as Grant clung to her hand and ran his thumb over the back of her fingers. His other gripped the steering wheel with white knuckles—sexual tension built with every mile that brought them closer to his house.

Jennifer sat up straighter when he pulled into a gated community. They drove past houses that took her breath. Each of them was huge and original and could be on the cover of magazines, they were so beautiful. Her breath caught when he pulled into his driveway. She only got a moment to look at the brick on the outside of the house before he pulled his car into the large, triple-car garage.Grant closed the garage door behind them, enclosing them in the muted light.

She caught a quick look at an SUV and a small vehicle out of the corner of her eyes.

Grant was silent when he opened her car door, leaned over her to unbuckle her seat belt, and lifted her out into his arms.He used his hip to close the door before he moved toward the kitchen door into the house.

Jennifer laughed but put her arms around his neck.“Grant, I can walk.”

He kissed her forehead.“I know.I want you in my arms.”He lifted her higher to put the code in before he strode with her inside.

His house was a blur as he walked through the kitchen and up to a set of wooden steps until he entered his master bedroom and set her on the bed.

She lay back, wide-eyed and unable to move on the dark comforter. Her gaze stayed on him as he turned the light on next to the bed and pulled his tie off before taking his suit jacket off.He threw both on a chair next to the bathroom before he moved to the bedroom door.Something twisted deep inside her when she heard the door close, taking away the hallway light, and she stiffened when she heard the click of a lock.

“Why lock the door?”

Grant paused and looked baffled.“I’m not sure.I think it might be that I’ve wanted you for so long, I don’t want anything to interrupt us.”

“No one else is here, right?”

“No, baby.It’s just us.I promise.”

He came toward her as he unbuttoned his cuffs before going down the line of buttons on the front of his shirt until all but two were undone. Her mouth watered at the sculpted mass of muscle and a scattering of black hair on his pectorals, and then it drew a line that disappeared under his slacks.

He lay down, facing her on the bed, and placed an arm over her head, and the other hand rested by her hip.“Hi,” he said as his gaze roamed over her, taking in her apprehension and desire.

A nervous giggle burst from her.“Hi, yourself.”

She couldn’t keep the worry and fear off her face, and she could tell it didn’t sit right with him.

“Baby, nothing is going to happen tonight that you don’t want. All you have to do is say stop.”He bent and pressed a soft kiss on her lips.“It will only take one word to break off what I’m doing.”

Jennifer placed her hands on his chest.“Grant, I need to tell you something.”

Grant slid his fingers through her hair before he smoothed it away from her face and spread it across his white pillow. The different highlights seemed to glow against the stark color of the pillow. He’d imagined her here so many times, but the reality was a hundred times better.

“You can tell me anything, baby.”

“I know I told you I didn’t have a lot of experience, but ...I ...I’m a virgin,” she stammered.

Satisfaction crossed his face.He smiled gently at the fiery blush spreading across hers.He didn’t want to tell her he already knew, and he didn't want to embarrass her further. He’d felt her hymen when he had a finger in her.

“Okay, Jen.It’ll be okay, I’ll make sure of it.I’m glad you told me.The last thing I want is to hurt you or scare you. We’ll slow down a bit anytime you need us to.”
