TWELVE HOURS EARLIER.
Ding.
My phone buzzes. I glance down at the screen as the notification pops up, bright against the harsh morning light streaming through the office windows.
Garrett
Vicky, please just talk to me. I don’t know what happened. It just did, but I swear it was a one time thing. Please.. answer the phone.
“Oh, fuck right off, Garrett.” I mutter.
That stupid asshole had the audacity to cheat on me. With a guy. Aguyhe works out with every damn day. Who I thought was just a friend.
Funny, isn’t it? I spent all this time worrying he’d fuck some random girl, and here I am.. replaced by another hot male personal trainer.
Yeah, that’ll mess with your self-esteem. It’s bad enough someone cheats on you, but with the opposite sex? That’s a punch in the gut. A slap to the face. My sex must’ve been so bad that he had to find it in a different gender.
He claimed he was straight. Straight my ass.
How are you with someone for two years and have no idea who they actually are? I mean, come on. This is ridiculous.
“Victoria.”
I glance up at my office doorway. Thomas, one of my co-workers, is leaning casually against it.
“Yes?” I respond.
“Are you planning on putting in for that assistant manager position?”
I let out a light chuckle. “Well.. itdoespay more.”
He laughs.
“But hell no. I’d rather not have to suck up to Carson for eight hours a day. Working directly with him would be a nightmare. At least here, in my office, I can just send anemail or sit through a small meeting every once in a while. But being his assistant? That’d mean constant one-on-one time. No, thank you.”
He shakes his head lightly. “You’re missing out.”
And with that, he walks away.
Yeah.. he’s right.
Iwouldbe missing out.
Missing out on a sexual harassment lawsuit against Carson.
Everyone in this damn building knows Carson’s reputation. He’s a whore who tries to fuck every woman he can get his hands on.
There’s no way I’m getting hired to be under him, only to end upactually under him, and then get fired for some bullshit reason.
I glance back at my desktop, clicking through numbers and recalculating budget changes, when anotherdingbuzzes against the table. My phone lights up with a new text.
