CLAY
“I’m bored,”I announced for what had to be the tenth time in an hour.
On the couch across from the chair I was sprawled in, Cade tapped the tablet he’d been reading without looking up. “You ain’t bored.”
“And how would you know?” I protested.
He snorted, tapping the screen again. “You’re either hungry, tired, or horny. That’s the only time ya get bored.”
I thought about that for a second and sighed. He had a point. I didn’t have to agree.
“Who the fuck around here could be tired?” I grumbled as my head fell back onto the chair. “We don’t have bedtimes. Anyone can sleep any time they want for as long as they want. The only time you gotta worry about someone waking you up is if you’ve been sleeping so long and they’re scared you woke up and died.”
“Woke up and died?”
“Yeah.”
“That sounds stupid.”
“You know, you’re supposed to be the nice one in this friendship.”
“If I get too nice, ya might think there’s a chance you can get in my pants.”
I sighed. “I swear, you hit on a hot guy, realize he’s actually horrifyingly straight, and you never live it down.”
Cade snorted as he squinted at his screen. “I like how ya act like it was just a bit of flirtin’, when you were practically tryin’ to ride it without me even takin’ it out.”
I could, at the very least, make myself feel a little better. After all, I knew he was being a smartass because I hadn’t beenthatbad. Okay, I had been pretty direct in the beginning, but that wasn’t any different than how I was with a lot of other guys I’d tried to sleep with. I mean, I could still tell he was good-looking, and maybe,at the beginning of our friendship, I wouldn’t have turned him out of my bed, so to speak, because he was pretty damn hot. Nowadays though? Eh, it was difficult to separate the Cade I knew from the Cade I’d wanted to fuck. Plus, it wasn’t my fault that in the beginning, I could have sworn I got a curious vibe off him, but no matter what angle I’d tried to approach sleeping with him with, it hadn’t worked.
So apparently, he was straight, my gaydar had been off the mark, and now I had a best friend who was never going to let me live down the fact that I had once been obviously horny for him.
C’est la vie, I guess.
“There’s a yoga class goin’ on,” Cade said, without looking up, but something in his tone made me squint at him suspiciously. “Might be able to join in if ya want.”
“Are you trying to get rid of me by having me go stare at a bunch of guys in tight clothes stretching in ways that could easily be seen as erotic?”
“Plenty of ’em wear loose clothes too.”
“Which makes it even better when they stretch just right, and it actually sticks to their ass...or thighs.”
“Then maybe you should go be a perv instead of sittin’ around whinin’ that you’re bored,” he said.
“That would require me to get up,” I pointed out. “And this chair is super comfortable right now.”
“Well, that new guy, Isaac, is supposed to be interested in yoga,” he said, giving himself away by smirking as he gave the screen another tap. “Might even be there if you’re lucky.”
I squinted at him. “Are you trying to use the ‘allure’ of the new guy to get rid of me?”
“It’s kinda hard to get anythin’ done when you’re bein’ all...annoyin’. So yeah, I guess I am.”
“That’s so hurtful.”
“I think you’re gonna be okay.”
“How did you even learn his name? Luka sucked at introducing him, so his name never even came up.”
“I hear things.”
