“I got your message. Congratulations.”
Craig turned his body sideways as if that would keep Major from hearing the conversation. “What do you mean congratulations?”
“Trista’s gone, and you get to be the star.”
“Don’t get ahead of yourself. Adams is flying in tomorrow to speak with Trista.”
“But…”
“But what?”
“Nothing. I’ll call you back.”
Craig disconnected, staring at the screen momentarily before slipping his phone into his back pocket, then gripping the bridge of his nose. After blowing out a breath, he returned to the table and continued eating.
“Everything okay?” Major asked.
“Other than Trista being a diva and pushing back production even further? Sure.”
If anyone was being a diva, it was Craig. Major wondered how often egos got in the way when other movies were being made. If all stars acted this way, it was a miracle any films were produced. Craig’s meal smelled tempting, so Major strolled over to the buffet and fixed himself a plate. He grabbed a can of water out of an icy bin, then returned to the table. Craig had finished eating, but instead of leaving as Major expected, he scrolled on his phone, giving Major time to eat. When he was done, Major took his plate to the tub specified for dirty dishes. Craig, of course, left his on the table.
“The dirties go over there.” Major pointed to where he dropped his off. Craig huffed, but he took the hint. “Now what?”
“Now I go back to my trailer and call Adams to seeif the rental house is still available. If we’re not filming for a few days, I’d rather stay somewhere nicer than a tin can.”
Major fell into step with Craig. He didn’t want to leave Tabitha, so he asked the question he figured would get Craig to change his mind, “Can you cook? Florence is on a plane home.”
Craig stopped and scrubbed a hand down his face. “Fuck. Guess the tin can it is.”
Chapter 10
Craven followed themto Trista’s trailer where he begged her to rethink quitting, but the woman was adamant about her decision if the original script wasn’t reinstated. Tabitha was proud of her for standing her ground. Trista then kicked him out and called Adams. When she got his assistant, Trista explained the situation, and the assistant quickly put Adams on the line. Tabitha pretended to scroll on her phone while listening in on the conversation.
“Trista, don’t do anything rash. I’ll fly into Atlanta tomorrow, and we’ll have a meeting. I’m sure we can come to an understanding.”
“Did you or did you not agree to the change in the script?”
“I did, but Craven assured me you were on board.”
“I am not. I only took this role because Nora is the heroine. Tell me now if that’s not the case.”
“Come on, Trista. You know how the industry works. Changes happen all the time.”
“If you don’t agree to the original script, I will tear up my contract and pay any reparations needed. You know I have the money. And while you’re at it, tell Craig he is not my boss nor my critique partner. I don’t want to work with such a fucking diva.”
“Yes, yes. I’ll see you tomorrow.”
Trista disconnected and tossed her phone on thetable. Marilyn arched a dark brow. “Are you really going to quit?”
Trista moved through the spacious area, pulling a can of water from the fridge. She leaned against the counter as she popped the top. “If they don’t agree to the original script, yes. You know I had other offers when I took this role. LikeThe Woman in Cabin C.It’s a murder mystery set in The Poconos. While I wouldn’t be kicking ass, I would be solving a murder alongside the handsome sheriff. And Roman Bane is not a dick. He and I work well together.”
Tabitha could agree the man was yummy. Not nearly as hot as Major, but then again, nobody was. If Trista quit this film, Tabitha wouldn’t be around Major since she would no longer be assigned to guard Trista, but she would still be in the same vicinity as her mate. She would explain the situation to Mason and ask that he not send her out of town for any assignments.
“Pennsylvania is cold and snowy this time of year. It gets my vote.” Marylin placed her tablet on the table in front of her. “And I agree with you about Roman. I just hate you having to pay to get out of your contract.”
Trista waved her free hand. “My peace of mind is worth it. Craig is an ass, and working with him these last few weeks has tested my patience.” To Tabitha, she asked, “Would you be willing to relocate if I take the Pennsylvania gig?”
“Sorry, but for now, I want to remain in this area.”
