“This book,” I ask slowly, “you say that you have an original copy?”

Zandra smiles gently. “I sure do. I’ll have it delivered to you by tomorrow.”

“Come. I have a surprise for you.”

Feylin’s standing outside my bedroom, his shoulder pressed against the doorframe. He’s wearing a lopsided grin and looks suspiciously excited.

“A surprise?”

“Well, it won’t be a surprise if you don’t come with me right this minute.”

I scowl playfully. “Now what kind of person only offers a surprise for a few seconds before snatching it away?”

“Ruthlessly brutal fae kings.”

A laugh roars from my throat. “Okay, you’ve got me. I’ll follow.”

He takes my hand, and I shiver from the electricity that zips up my arm. I should be pulling away. I should be reminding myself that I gave my heart too easily to one man and I don’t want to fall for another. But I don’t do any of that.

I simply let it be as Feylin leads me through the castle and down into the village, where we stop outside of Castleview Tailors.

My gaze darts over the shop. “What’re we doing here?”

He grins, open-mouthed, pearly whites gleaming. “Step inside and I’ll show you.”

Inside we’re greeted by Daisy, the town tailor. She’s a tall blonde wearing all black with a tape measure tossed around her neck.

“Well, if it ain’t little Addie Thornrose. Good to see you, girl.”

“Good to see you too,” I tell her, still trying to put all of this together.

“Your Majesty.” She half bows to Feylin. “Are y’all ready?”

He rubs a hand over his jaw. “We’re ready.”

“For what? What are we ready for?”What in the world is going on?

Daisy claps her hands, and my attention whips to the back of the shop. In the very center sits a dais cupped by three mirrors. On both sides of the dais sits a door. When Daisy claps, those doors fly open and out of each darts a silver rack filled with dresses that rustle as they fly into the room and come to an abrupt magical halt.

Daisy walks around me while I survey Feylin with awhat is going onlook.

“I pulled a few items, but now that she’s here, I have a better sense of her. Maybe she’ll try a few more?”

“Including the ones you already showed me?” he says, still leaving me in the dark.

“Including those,” she confirms before stepping away. “Let me grab them.”

I drop Feylin’s hand and whirl on him. “What’s going on?”

He gestures to the clothes. “This is your surprise. Pick out a gown, whatever you want, and it’s yours for the ball.”

My brows furrow. “But what about the witch gowns I’m supposed to wear?”

He sheepishly rubs the back of his neck. “I may or may not have pulled a few strings. You don’t have to wear one.”

“You what?”
