With great reluctance, I joined him on the bed. I kicked my shoes off and curled myself into a ball, trying to lay as far as I could away from him.
“You’re angry,” he said from behind me.
“Callahan abandoned me because of you,” I snapped.
How could he be so dense? Callahan had been mine before he came along. It hadn’t even taken a day for him to forget about me in favor of someone better.
“He didn’t abandon you.”
“What do you call having sex with someone else?” I rolled to face Riot. “Or is that just another day for you?”
“I mean,” he propped himself up on his elbow. “Yes, kind of. I don’t take sex as seriously as you do, clearly. I doubt Callahan does either, otherwise he wouldn’t have done it.”
“You’re so smug.” I was disgusted. “How does it feel, knowing that my heart is completely shattered?”
The smile slid off his face. “Not good. Eleanor, I’m sorry. That was never my intent.”
“What was your intent then? Because you two didn’t wait long to get naked with each other.”
“I- I’m not entirely sure,” he admitted. “I’ve always lived my life with the motto that if the mood strikes you, to go for it. I was horny, he was too, so I blew him. It wasn’t done to be malicious.”
“Did you even think about who you’d be hurting?”
He blinked.
“No.”
“Well, there you go. That’s why I’m angry.” I turned back around and wiped a tear away. I refused to let him see my heart break in real time.
Chapter 51 - Riot
Call in favors when you need to.
Isat up all night, listening to Eleanor try not to be too loud in her crying. She couldn’t hide her body shaking or the constant sniffling though. It was torture. I’d never felt like this before. This… guilt.
The sleep I did manage to get wasn’t enough to make me feel refreshed. I got up, threw clothes on, and went downstairs, preparing coffee and slicing some bread for when she woke up. I wasn’t much of a cook, so I’d have to go into town to pick up some things while Cherry was gone. I was making a mental list of things I’d need when Eleanor made her way down.
She was slow and quiet in her movements.
“I won’t run away if you let me sleep alone,” she said when she came into the kitchen. I nodded.
“I’ll think about it. I have to go to town, so why don’t we blow off work today and you come with me to the shop?”
Her eyes moved from the floor, lighting up. I was momentarily dumbstruck by her smile.
I’d do anything to give her that look forever.
“To the tattoo artist?”
I laughed. “Yeah. Maybe we can get you some clothes too. For now, you’ll have to put some of my pants on.”
She looked absolutely absurd in my bottoms. She was swimming in them, which only made her more adorable when she tugged on her helmet and motioned for me to get going.
I hopped on my bike and she climbed on behind me. Her arms wrapped around me and I relished in the feeling.
Why did I like this so much?
I tried not to dwell on the confusing feelings as I took us into town. I parked at Scissors and we walked to the places we needed to go. I ordered some food to be brought to the house, along with clothes for Eleanor. We weren’t picky on style. She just needed clothes that fit.
