“Spencer sure was generous.”
“Okay, you cannot talk about that tonight. Please,” she pleaded. Before I could answer, the door was thrust open and a body was being thrown against me.
“You guys came!” Soleil’s high-pitched voice caused me to jolt. I didn’t hug her back, and she pulled away to hug Eisley. “I was worried you wouldn’t show.”
“Of course we would,” Eisley eyed her friend warily. I did too. Why did she hug me first?
“I know, but I said all that stuff about you being crazy and made a scene at the funeral.” Soleil laughed, as if it was just another day in the life of a rich bitch.
Eisley flinched again and I recalled yesterday when she’d gotten visibly upset.
“I don’t like that word.”
I made a mental note to ask about it later. Soleil ushered us inside.
“Come on, you two, we’ve got pizza and a mini keg set up in the kitchen. Micah is working on a projector, and Therese bought a popcorn machine.”
“What are we watching?” I asked, keeping my hand on Eisley’s back. We followed Soleil through the spotless house into the large living room.
“I was trying for aHellraiserMarathon, but Emi threw a fit.” Micah snickered as he pulled down a large projector from the ceiling.
“It’s disgusting.” Emi stuck out her tongue.
“We’re gonna just doNightmare on Elm Streetinstead. Spencer liked Freddy Krueger,” Therese said from the other side of the room. She was pouring popcorn kernels into the machine.
“Honestly, it’s probably a better choice. I think we could all use a good laugh tonight.” Rem came into the room, holding a beer.
“Which is why I brought shrooms for everyone.” Micah darted his tongue in and out. “You do shrooms, Constantine?”
“I have. It could be a fun time.” There was no fucking way I’d be taking drugs with these stupid fucks.
“Hell yeah, you picked a good one, Eisley.”
“A goodhusband,” Soleil exaggerated the last word. “They’re married, remember?” She hiccupped. “Sorry, I started early today.” She tried to rest her head on my shoulder, but I stepped away in time.
The rest of the room rolled their eyes, but Eisley, ever the sweetheart, nodded in sympathy. “Totally understandable. It’s only been a few days.”
“Less than a week. Just last weekend, I had his dick in my mouth, and now, he’s buried in the ground,” Soleil whined.
“But I’m so glad you brought your man. Finally, we know why you’ve never dated that other guy. The hot one with the glasses. What was his name? Kansas.” Soleil spun past us, landing on the couch. Her legs shot up, giving me a good view of her teal thong. Her pussy was barely covered, and for the first time in my life, I was a little nauseated by the sight of one.
“Soleil,” Emi warned.
“Oh, come on, I’m just teasing. Pop off, queen.” Soleil gestured to Eisley. She then rolled her eyes and nodded to the screen. “Can we turn the movie on and pass the drugs, please?”
“There’s beer and food in the kitchen,” Rem told us, and we went and grabbed red cups.
“We don’t have to go crazy tonight. It’s been a long time since I’ve done mushrooms,” Eisley admitted.
“I’ll follow your lead.” I smiled.
We drank and refilled our cups and returned to the living room. The movie was getting going, and Micah was hunched over the coffee table with a small scale and a plate full of dried mushrooms.
“Come get some, everyone,” he muttered as he began weighing and separating them into small piles. Soleil went first, grabbing a handful and heading straight to the kitchen. Therese and Emi followed.
“They’re going to grind them up,” Rem explained. He took his share and tossed them into his mouth without a second thought.I cringed. Eating mushrooms like that was like eating twigs.Eisley went over and grabbed some.
“I think I’ll go with the girls. You want to come?” She eyed me.
