“Only somewhat,” I teased. “A husband and wife typically share the same roof, however, I do have some work to do tonight, so I should probably get going.” I wrapped my arms around her soft body. My cock hardened, and she stepped back, having felt it on her leg.

“I’m tired.”

Of course, she’d say that. She’d already gotten off. Wanting desperately to ignore her, bend her over the island, and fuck her anyways, I forced myself to step away and take my leave. There’d be plenty of time for fun, and it’d be worth it if I continued to wait.

The next day, I was woken up by a knock on my hotel door. Groggy, I opened it to find one of the geeky kids from the documentary crew looking up at me with skittish eyes. “Hello, Constantine, sir?”

“Yeah?”

“We want to invite you back to filming. We’ll pay you triple.”

I laughed in his face. “Why would I do that?”

“Don’t you wanna be famous?”

“Not even slightly. I did the interviews you asked. I’m done.”

“Dave said he’s cutting your hotel and travel off if you don’t come back and walk through the Church for the cameras,” the kid blurted.

Hmm, interesting.

“What exactly is he up to?” I pulled the kid into my room and shut the door quickly. The kid continued to shake but didn’t leave.I went to my suitcase and pulled out a T-shirt and jeans, tugging them on.

“I’m not sure, sir.” The kid was staring at the long scars on my chest. “He’s been studying the Minister’s books. He thinks that maybe some clue to unlocking everything is in the Church.”

“You’re speaking in circles,” I snarled. “Tell me what you really want.”

“He wants to know why you’re not dead!”

I paused and then turned to the pimply teen.

“Tell him, I want to know the same thing about him.”He flew to the door then and ran.I sat on my bed and inhaled. This was not the way to start my day. Grabbing my phone, I found an invite to a party being thrown in Spencer Foxworth’s honor tonight.

The invite came from Soleil Walton. How did she get my email?

I read through the details, and it felt standard, just a mass e-vite. I was sure Eisley had gotten the same one. But did she know I had? Right then, she called.

“Good morning, beautiful,” I muttered into the phone. I loved the way her breathing hitched every time she heard my voice after not having been around me for a bit. It was so innocent, and something about that innocence of hers drew me in. “What are you doing?”

“Just brewing my morning tea. I wanted to see if you’d come to a party with me tonight.”

“What party?”

“At Therese’s. I really hate going there, especially at night. But it’s a party for Spencer, and I feel like if I don’t go, then it will be weird.”

“Why don’t you like going there?”

She paused. “The woods are in her backyard.”

“What woods?”

“The woods where the Church still is. About three quarters of a mile in. They like to go there all the time but I can’t stand even looking at the trees. I don’t want to go to the party alone. Please come with me.”

“Your friends aren’t really my scene.” I knew I’d go anyways, but I wanted to make her sweat a little.

“I know, especially Soleil right now. She’s a mess. But I’ll owe you one if you come.”
