"Are you friends with him?" I asked.
"I think Boogie is the only one who can claim friends." She snickered. "I know Constantine. We went to high school together. We've hung out when he was with Boogie. He's not really social." She chuckled. "I mean, you know."
I didn't.I barely knew the man Constantine had grown up to be. All I knew before jumping into bed with him was that he was hot and wanted me.
"What was he like as a teenager?" I asked her.
"Broody. He got in a lot of fights. The teachers hated him. I think he had a shit home life too. Right, Boogie?"He nodded.
"I had a tiny crush on him in school." She pinched her fingers together and laughed. "But honestly, which emo girl didn't?"
"I mean, his aesthetic does scream bad boy." My cheeks flooded as I recalled his blue, brooding eyes. "Leather jacket and all."
"He used to wear eyeliner too." She cocked a brow. "What about you? What were you like in high school?"
"Kind of boring. I was shy. I didn't have a whole lot of friends."
Just Kansas.
A bell rang and she stood to go attend to whoever had walked in. With every line he carved into my skin, I felt more and more sure of my decision. Confidence rose with the endorphins, and an hour later, Boogie pulled away and told me he was done.
He pulled his gloves off and offered me a hand mirror. I admired the ink and thanked him. Cautiously, I pulled my top back up over it and went to the front to check out.
Laurel was there, leaning against the counter as I paid Boogie.
"You, uh, think about those ears again?" She wiggled her eyebrows. "I happen to know on good authority that Constantine thinks they're hot."I gave her a questionable look.
"He does? Wait…" I leaned forward on the counter. "Have you met some of his exes?"
"I wouldn't say that. He never really dated." She backed away. "I shouldn't have said anything. I'm sorry."
"No, it's fine," I assured her. I took a large breath and nodded. "Let's do it."She took me into another room and sat me up on her large chair. She tried to backpedal as she washed, gloved, and prepared everything. "I'm not trying to cause problems. What's in the past is in the past and all that."
"It's fine," I laughed. "Really. I don't focus on stuff like that. It's just interesting to hear about what he was like before."
"Well, he was depressing, mostly." She smirked. "Hopefully finding you will change that. Bring out a little sunshine on his gloomy attitude. Get him to open up and relax some." She came toward me with a small cone-shaped needle and a small hoop. "Stay still," she said as she slid it through my ear and followed it with the hoop. There was a tightness in my earlobes but otherwise, nothing.
"There ya go!" she said brightly. "Come back in two weeks and I'll put the next ones in. We can go up to zero, but from there, you're on your own."I reached for my now itchy lobe and tugged on it.
"Thanks."We walked out together.
"Did Constantine know you were coming today?"
I shook my head.
"Ooh, what a fun surprise. I think he'll like it. I mean, who wouldn't like a hot girl with tattoos and stretched ears?"
Just then, my phone started to ring, and his name appeared on my screen. I looked from her to the phone and thanked her again before stepping out.I took the call as I was walking to my car.
"Hello?"
A deep growl came from the other side. "Where the fuck are you?"
Rule 62 - Eisley
Fall themed attractions? Dangerous.
Iwas nervous the entire drive home. Constantine was so angry he couldn't find me.
