“That’s what consent is, isn’t it?” I scoffed, and her head shot up. Her eyes turned from sad to pissed in an instant.

“You’re the last one to ever lecture me on consent. Maybe I will take all three. Or maybe twelve. I don’t care how many men I’m with as long as none of them are you.”

It was as if she had thrown water in my face. I sat back, stunned.

“Look,” she relaxed and rolled her eyes. She leaned against my table and nodded to the bar, where Landon had been working all week. “I’m just letting you know I won’t be here all weekend. I’ll be on a boat with some of his friends for a few nights.”

“A boat? Where are you going?” I demanded.

“Nowhere. We’re just floating. He’s got a friend coming in from Europe. It’s whatever.” She waved off my concerns. “Just don’t bother coming in. I won’t be here.”

“What the fuck do you expect me to do?”

She scoffed. “Like I really give a fuck. Desi, give it up.” She turned away then, and I reached out to grab her wrist. She stopped short as my fingers wrapped around her small arm. “I’m going to suggest you take your hand off me before I rip it off your body and bash your head in with it,” she said through clenched teeth, not looking at me. Her tone told me that she’d do it. I let go and instantly apologized.

She ignored me, and we didn’t speak for the rest of the night. I felt horrible for grabbing her like that.I ended up leaving early. I slid her tip under my glass and booked it for my vehicle. I wanted to wait to see her home, but I needed to rethink my plans.

If she was planning on taking three cocks just to spite me, I had to figure out how to stop it. I couldn’t watch that. Two was enough. Fuck, one was enough if I was honest with myself. Every time I had to see her smile as someone else felt the pleasure that came from sex with her, I died a little inside.

I returned to my hotel and paced until exhaustion made me sleep. I had to think of something to stop her from getting on that boat.

Out of sheer desperation, I called Ginata when I woke up. She didn’t answer, which was to be expected. She instead texts me right away.

Me: I need help. Scout is getting on a boat this weekend. Where can I find that?

Ginata: Why are you drawn to this vampire so hard? It’s unusual for you, Desiderio.

Me: We’re soulmates. It’s hard to explain.

Ginata: I think the entire concept is outdated. Surely you can’t think you are the only true love for her?

I clenched my phone tightly, staring at the message. I could hear the sarcasm in her voice. God, she hadn’t changed either.

Me: She is mine, and I am hers. Where is the boat?

She didn’t reply, so I decided I’d get showered and find the thing myself. I was pulling on my coat when I finally got a reply back.

Ginata: I think you highly underestimate the allure of our way of life. Good luck, Desiderio.

I shook my head and shoved the phone intomy pocket. Fuck her. Ginata really thought that three stranger cocks were better for Scout than mine? I spent three decades pining after Scout. I killed ten thousand people just to get her back. I wasn’t going to lose her over three dicks who combined gave her maybe six inches.

I was just about to storm out of my room when a frantic knock came from the other side. I ripped the door open to find Ludovica smiling wide up at me.

“I’m leaving,” I snarled.

She nodded. “Take this.” She pulled out a flask and handed it to me. I raised it to my face to get a better look. It was smooth, jet black, with a faint cross on the front.

“What is it?” I shook it, hearing liquid sloshing around.

“I don’t have a name for it yet, but if sunshine touches you, pour that on or in the affected area.”

“You’re a chemist now?” I smirked.

“I dabble.”

I raised my eyebrows and shoved the flask intomy pocket. “You think I’ll need this?”

She frowned. “I have no idea. Something about this place gives me bad vibes. Be safe, Desiderio.” She put her small hand on my forearm as an act of compassion. I stared at it for a moment before nodding and brushing past her.
