“Desi!”

He looked up sharply at me, his eyes hardening.

“Did you just—can you—”

It took everything in me not to nod my head. I forced my muscles to behave and thought to him instead.

“Yes. Kill her.”

“You got it, boss.”

“It’s no wonder you were able to pass for Ginata. You look nothing alike, but the way you walk, the way you talk, and the way you attempt seduction,” Desi smirked. “That’sallGluttony.”

She turned away from me, stepping back to Desi. “The vampire fallen from grace, she used to say. Desiderio Amato came from a very important family, but he gave it all up for someone he would never remember. He’d been marked with eyes like no other vampire. Born or Shed.” She shook her head and reached for his face. He tensed but let her touch him. I gulped, watching them with nervousness as she placed her full palm against his cheek. “No wonder you’re so angry,” she laughed.

“Where is she? The real Ginata?” he asked through gritted teeth and clenched fists.

“For all I know, she could be dead and buried. I left her years ago.” She leaned up on her tiptoes, her lips puckered, and she closed her eyes. In an instant, I was moving, but Desi had already stepped away.

She stumbled back, surprised, and slipped on the blood from Ludovica. She screamed as she waved her arms wildly, trying to find something to hold.

“Fleck!”

The vampire to who Desi had flashed his blade to was cowering in the corner. Desi turned to him, and he threw his hands up in innocence. Desi rolled his eyes and let him flee. He leaped up and ran past me without a second look back.

Fake Ginata’s mouth fell open as she watched her boyfriend abandon her. She steadied herself and took a step, but her bare foot slipped on the blood again. She fell back and bounced her head on the tile. Bone collided with the ceramic with a sickening crack. There was a moment where she lay there, stunned.

“Desi?” I said aloud. “Is—”

“I’m not done here. Can you maybe—” he paused and looked around. It was a fucking shit show in here. Water and blood flooded the floor. Ludovica was still tearing apart the human, despite him being super dead. Fake Ginata was groaning and rolling in said blood. “I don’t want you to watch me do…this.”

“Why do you boss her around like that? No wonder she hates you. I would not spend eternity with someone like you,” False Ginata moaned.

“No one asked you to,” he snapped.

“What am I supposed to do then? Wait outside? Yeah, okay, sure.”I crossed my arms and glared at him as I shot the thoughts his way.

“Scout, this is gonna get gory,”he warned, responding the same way.

“We’re vampires. Our entire lifestyle is gory. We’re end-game, remember? I’m staying.”

Desi shot me a sarcastic smirk. I ignored him. A moan came from where Ludovica was still attacking the guy's throat. I grimaced. It sounded like mac and cheese being stirred.

“What is she doing?”

“You don’t want to know.”

“It sounds disgusting.”

“It is. Ignore it.”

“I’m— is she moaning?”I squinted to look better. I think tearing apart that human piece by piece was… arousing her. Desi shut his eyes and put a hand on his temple.

“Scout! Shut the fuck up! Focus!”

“Sorry,” I said aloud. My hands flew to my mouth then, but it was too late.

Fake Ginata heard it and saw us shoot looks of panic at each other. She sat up and then stood. She stared at me with bright eyes that made me weary. “It’s true. You are special. Tell me, Young Blood Priestess, what drew you to this vampire?” She shook her head and scrunched up her nose as she looked at Desi. “Out of all the partners you could have had, why this one? He doesn’t fit.”
