“My perfect weekend,” Mark said.
“So how does it all work?” Derek cut back in. “Cleo’s got your stuff inside her. How you gonna know if its your kid or another one of hers?”
“They aren’t having sex until she knows she’s pregnant. They stopped a few weeks ago,” I explained. Guilt turned my stomach again.
“Oh, well that’s why Ethan’s been such a douche lately. I thought they were just fighting about Duchess or something.”
I sat up straight.
“What did she do now? Have you heard anything yet about her trial?” Derek shook his head.
“Nothing that I know of. Of course she made bail. I don’t think she can leave the country though. I’m waiting for her shave the head, attacking paparazzi meltdown. It’s gotta be coming. Her book was pulled, she hit me with her freaking car, and despite that, Ethan hasn’t run to her side.”
Mark pulled on his shirt. “God that woman has some claws. I’m surprised my back isn’t scarred from her crazy ass. Totally worth it though,” he smirked.
Later in the evening Adrian came to visit. He brought Chase and tiny little Rocky. I took the baby as soon as they unbuckled him from his car seat. He was so adorable. There was no denying who his father was. He looked so much like Chase.
“Do you guys want ice cream?” I asked. Adrian said no but Chase thought about it for a moment and then nodded his head.
“I could go for some.”
I had to give Rocky back to him while I got bowls and the ice cream out. Sitting two scoops of strawberry in front of him I traded Chase the ice cream for his son. It was insane how much he looked like Chase. I wondered for a moment if our child would look more like Mark or take after me.
“So, how’s everything going?” I asked, shaking the thoughts away. He swallowed his bite and then smiled.
“Great actually. The doctors can already see a shrinkage in the tumor. They think another four months should do it.”
“That’s amazing!” He nodded and then made a weird face.
“What?”
“I- we, wanted to actually see if you could babysit on the days I go in for treatment. Now that they are going back to the studio full time Adrian can’t really be there during the day with Rocky. He said that you used to nanny for Cleo.”
I turned my head to look at the baby in my arms. He was smiling up at me, gently cooing. I kissed his chubby cheek and looked back at his father.
“I’d love that. He’s such a sweet baby. Just give me a schedule.”
That night in bed I told Mark about my babysitting Rocky and then I mentioned my musings from earlier that evening about our own baby. He chuckled and climbed into bed with me.
“Well if it’s a girl I pray that she looks like you. I would not make a pretty lady.”
“You think it will be a girl?” I asked. He gave me a blank look for a moment.
“Well right now its like a blueberry or something.”
I snorted.
“Not even that. It’s been a day. Give it a few weeks and then we can call it a blueberry.” Mark’s face turned serious.
“Don’t mention that to her. Next thing you know we are bringing home little Blueberry Lacey.”
“She wouldn’t,” I gasped.
“You never know with her,” he chuckled.
