“Of course, I won’t have any alcohol. But I can have a Shirley temple and enjoy the ambiance.”
Sighing, I found the closest bar and pulled into the parking lot.Just as we were stepping out of the car, I noticed a familiar vehicle that made me stop short. A yellow jaguar was parked near the door. It couldn’t be the same one. The odds of that were- I didn’t even know. Before I could react or think three people stumbled out of the bar, giggling and screaming at each other.
I groaned, recognizing them all instantly. Confusion fell over me. Why would Holly be with Duchess and Christopher?
Cleo hadn’t seen them yet, but when she looked up, she let out a yelp. The rain was finally slowing to a steady downpour. Either we went inside or got back in the car, I didn’t care I just didn’t enjoy being drenched. I turned to tell Cleo this when the trio started screaming louder.
“You can’t just come to my work and harass me! You know how hard it was to get this job? And the bouncer kicking you out, Chris, you can’t keep showing up like this, embarrassing me?”
“Oh, you are embarrassed by me?”
“Well when you show up completely drunk with your girlfriend, yes, you embarrass your wife!”
“Good God, is she always like this? Such a downer!” Duchess exclaimed. She seemed just as belligerent as Christopher was.
“I am so sick of everyone acting like they are so much better than me,” Chris said, than motioned from himself to the pop diva.
“Me and you both. Who do they think they are?”
I knew suddenly that it was time to go. I grabbed Cleo’s elbow and urged her back, but she was frozen to the spot. Chris looked around the parking lot and his eyes settled on us. He squinted, then his eyes grew big with recognition. He smiled wide and sauntered or rather, stumbled, over to us. I kept my hand on her arm.
“Well, well, well, look who it is. Can’t get enough of me, eh? I knew it. I always knew you’d end up coming back.” He looked down at her bulging belly and tipped an imaginary hat at her.
“Congrats, by the way. On being pregnant with another kid that’s not your husband’s. Old habits, huh?” He hiccuped then began laughing. Duchess stormed over, followed by a swearing Holly.
“Can’t you just leave us alone?” She whined. Grabbing Chris, she tried to pull him towards her car. “Come on.”
He ripped his arm away and moved closer to Cleo. I tried to pull her, but she was standing firm. Her eyes were wild with fear.
Holly crossed her arms from behind the drunk couple and smirked.
“How did you like the little video I sent you? It’s a little hard seeing the guy that kisses the ground you walk on talk shit about you, huh?” She looked at her husband and her eyes grew shiny. “Hurts, don’t it?” Her voice cracked.
Holly’s revelation told me that this was not going to get any better. I told Cleo to get in the car, and finally she snapped out of her trance. I think it was just a moment too late.
