“Abull that sees red and then charges. Ido believe that you would kill me, given half the chance. It’sgood then that you will not get the chance, Jolie.” He held my wrists with one hand and stroked his other down the side of my face.
“Fuck you!” Igritted out, and spat into his face.
Wet spit trailed down the side of his cheek, but he didn’tflinch. His grin never faltered. Instead, he leaned down and pressed his mouth against mine. Mouth closed, teeth pressing roughly against my lips, he nudged my knees apart so that he could press himself between my thighs. The more Ifought against him, the harder he pressed, until Ifelt the sharp pinch of my tooth cutting my lip and the tang of metallic blood washed across my tongue.
Finally he released my mouth, and breathless and annoyed, Iscreamed in his face again. He laughed and reached down, pressing his thumb against my mouth and smearing the blood from my lip across my cheek.
“Now that is fucking beautiful,” he grunted, his pupils dilated and his chest heaving.
My defiant gaze never left his and his nostrils flared, though Iwasn’tsure if it was in excitement or anger. The sound of gunfire erupted from upstairs again but neither of us reacted to it. We were so intent on fighting one another that nothing else existed beyond each other'sangry gazes.
“Iwill break you, little girl,” he said, his voice thick with what sounded like hunger. And then he laughed. Even his laughter was beautiful. Deep and rich and perfect.
“Ihate you,” Ibit out.
His laughter died and his mouth split into another grin. “That’sokay. You don’tneed to like me for me to fuck you.”
The sound of gunfire drew closer, louder that time, and he turned to look at the door in confusion.
“Maybe that’smy brother,” Isaid, and he turned back to me. “You should run.”
“There are fifty men out there; no one’ssaving you, Jolie.” Despite his words, his smile had faltered and Isaw the worry behind the façade he was putting on.
Shouting and banging erupted from above us, more gunfire and the sound of feet running back and forth.
It sounded like awar had broken out.
Bad against bad.
Evil against evil.
Death upon death.
“Fucking hell!” He released me and climbed off the bed before marching across the room. Throwing one quick glance back at me, he said, “Don’tgo anywhere. I’ll be right back.”
And then he left the room.
