How the fuck had none of us noticed? How hadhenot noticed?
Laney stopped fighting Shooter, and instead her hands began to cling to him as she sobbed. Shooter stood up and pushed his hands into her hair, dragging her mouth to his, kissing her hard, and for the first time since he’dfucked up, she kissed him back like she meant it.
Iswallowed as Iwatched them, asmall part of my cold heart cracking. That was real love right there. There was no denying it when you saw it—hell, when you felt it, and by God every one of us in the club felt it in that moment.
Their love was pure and untouchable.
They were destiny.
They were everything.
Iswallowed again and looked away from them. When Iturned around Casa was right there, that dumb fucking face of his smiling across at me.
“What?” Isnapped.
Laney was still crying and Icould hear Shooter mumbling apologies and promises to her as they hugged and kissed, and for the first time in months it felt like they might just make it.
“What the fuck are you smiling at?” Isaid again to Casa as Imoved to sit back down.
Casa sat beside me. “Grandpa,” he chuckled.
Iside-eyed him. “Don’tcall me that.”
“You prefer gramps?” he asked.
“If you ever planning on having kids of your own, you better shut that fucking mouth of yours,” Igrumbled, picking up my bottle of beer, still in adaze.
Itook along drink of it, the cool amber sliding down my throat before Iglanced across at him.
“What?” he asked.
“Grandpa does have anice ring to it though,” Igrumbled.
Dom patted me on the shoulder as he took the other seat next to me. “It sure does, brother.”
He picked up his beer and the three of us clinked bottles while, behind us, Shooter and Laney kissed like they were teenagers hooking up for the first time. Then Ipushed that thought away because despite the fact that she was going to be amom now, she was still my little girl.
“Goddamn it, I’mgonna be someone’sgrandpa for fuck’ssake,” Isighed, dragging ahand down my beard, and Casa and Dom laughed.
